Wrath of the Phoenix (AU) || Uriel
Ava hadn’t been feeling right, like something was off, for a few days now. The strange dreams that bordered on nightmares and kept her up for hours each night weren’t helping either, and had only served in putting her in the worst of moods, much to the others’ aggravation. Even she hardly wanted to be around herself, which was a problem given that she didn’t have that luxury like everyone else. So instead of subjecting the others on the squad to her insufferable attitude she’d been taking solo missions as they came in.
One such mission she was beginning to regret, though. The hero squad had been tracking unusual gang activity in Elnora, suspecting Nephilim involvement, and the opportunity to do some scouting and reconnaissance had presented itself, which Avalon had eagerly taken and insisted on doing by herself; it would be easy enough to do from the air, and if they needed more close-up intel it would be far safer for her to do it than any of the others. She hadn’t anticipated the ridiculous amount of security and Metahuman manpower that was being put to use though. Someone eventually picked up on her presence and initiated a confrontation.
At some point Ava had shifted into a more hybrid form so she could fight and fly as she needed; the large golden eagle wings that grew out from her shoulder blades did as much damage to the thugs that tried to come at her as her fire and combat skills did. At least until a force hit her in the back and sent her staggering. There weren’t many still standing to come at her, and no one had been able to get close enough to land a surprise hit on her... So who had managed to hit her with enough power to nearly break her wings?
“Alright, which of you assholes threw that?” she demanded, folding her wings in closer to shield her back as she turned in a slow circle to find the lucky shot. Even though the wing was already knitting itself back together, it still hurt like hell.
