Young male neutered overweight indoor cats that eat cheap cat foods end up with crystals in their urine. Sometimes the crystals can be seen in the syringe when the urine is taken from the bladder using a needle. The urine is spun in a centrifuge to make all the crystals settle out so they can be viewed under the microscope. Some cats look like they are urinating a stream of salt. These cats become "blocked" and need a urinary catheter inserted to allow urine to flow. Cats die when they can't urinate for 3 days. This cat had a urinary catheter and iv catheter placed to flush out the crystals and blood. #blockedcat #urinarycrystals #struvite #calciumoxalate #emergencyvet #sandiego (at PETSURG)
