Finally drew some girls, and finally featuring an Archer! Urstra, my Acrobat and Aletscha, my Soul Eater.
Thanks lazendar for giving me tips on lighting, especially with the reflected light / bleed effect. I wasn’t planning on that at first but it’s good to learn.
I can finally draw again after taking care of a guest for almost a month. :’D Not that we didn’t have a great time, but while he was delightful, I do miss just sitting down and drawing for hours.
These two are related and I’ve written more of their backstory under the cut.
Texture from here.
So I was:
wondering what colour hair to give my archer, since she has dark chocolate skin and only looks good with really light or really dark hair,
tinkering with the idea that the race to which Kali belongs is actually elven, albeit based in Tel Numara instead of Anu Arendel (I read this one somewhere, not sure if it was a concept or a headcanon), and
thinking about how elves are hatched from fruits bore by the Tree of Life, but then also
considering that the Tel Numara natives probably reproduced in a more human manner, since Garaham had a husband and a daughter.
After some musing in a state of sleep-deprivation, I came up with some character settings for these two.
Urstra was born as a dark-skinned elf from the Tree of Life; although the then-elf queen was fair-skinned, being born from a far-reaching branch meant that her traits deviated from the model. When she was hatched from the fruit, she was born as a twin - there was another identical elf in the same fruit.
For over 800 years, the twins lived in ignorant peace, believing that their Telezia is to simply live together and be good civilians. They acted as scouts, keeping watch in some relatively peaceful border towns. Their lives were pretty ordinary, but they were at peace and happy.
But one day, Urstra’s sister went a little further, and never returned. Urstra only realised where her twin was, when many years later she caught a whiff of her in the air - she had died and, failing to achieve her Telezia, had turned into dust.
Urstra took a decade to track down the place where her sister perished, and found herself in Tel Numara. Initially confused over why she was still alive, she asked the local townspeople and pieced together the final years of her sister - she had fallen for a native and married him, and eventually gotten pregnant, which was previously unheard of (everyone had assumed elves were biologically asexual). When the child was born, she died and turned to dust. The child was a girl, born almost blind as a result of crossbreeding, but with an affinity for the supernatural and spiritual.
Urstra believed that she was still alive because the child was a replacement for her dead twin in the life she was meant to lead in accordance with her Telezia. As such, she is trying to find Aletscha, get to know her, and hopefully bring her back to Anu Arendel.
