Stay here with me tonight.
No ifs or buts about it, no second-guessing, no complications. They don’t know each other well enough to complicate things. As it stands, PJ likes Emily for all her callousness, not despite it. She has a hard edge that she doesn’t care to hide and it mightn’t exactly be refreshing, but it’s something honest that PJ likes about her. Sure -- there’s a certain rarity to Em’s abrasiveness, rare to find in people and rarer again to find in women, but rarity was never the thing that guaranteed desirability. There are plenty of rare things in the world that PJ doesn’t like, or that don’t like PJ. But Emily would be Emily no matter how many people like her there are. And it’s the being Emily that PJ would stick around for.
She flags the bartender down for another round. “Can’t invite you back to my place.” Already, she has a lie about having a friend over prepped in case Emily asks why, because the only thing keeping her out is PJ’s overzealous sense of privacy, and it’s easier to fake it than admit you just do not want certain things in certain spaces because you just get weird in your brain about it. But on the bright side; “We can say here ‘till the place closes though, whiiich I think isn’t for ‘nother like, three hours.”
“Sooo ya got me ‘till then.” Lucky girl. “Drinks’re on me.”
