Serena Williams wins the opening match at the 2018 US Open by defeating Magda Linette in straight sets (6-4, 6-0).
This evening a star was born, Naomi Osaka win US Open!
Naomi Osaka won her first major in two sets, 6-2 6-4.
Serena Wiliams fights to the end, puts an absurd energy to try to resist, scores a lot of winners, splits the rackets, screams against the referee, she even gets to tears.
But the young Naomi is precise, almost unbelievably, finds absurd trajectories and as if this was not enough shots really strong and shows an absurd maturity for a twenty year old, never breaks up, repeatedly finds an ace when she played a break point, even scores two aces and a winner in the decisive game, one in which she would have to shake his legs because, at only twenty years, she was going to win her first major.
Serena’s post-final press conference
You owe me an apology.
Serena Williams to a dumb-ass umpire who accused her of cheating
Watching Naomi at the trophy ceremony it was clear how shaken she was by the whole experience. There was so much booing and she knew everyone was there to watch Serena. You could tell how shy and broken Naomi was.
I love Serena and what happened to her wasn't fair but Naomi more than likely would of won. She remained unrattled and dominated most of the game. It sucks that Noami's first win was so controversial but congratulations to her and giving Japan their first grand slam champion.
