CALA : Center for Architecture & Urban Design
Site
Main Views to Angels Knoll
.site + 400 S Hill St. Los Angeles, CA
.project + Our project is to design The Center for Architecture and Urban Design Los Angeles. My vision for CALA would be to make the everyday Angelino more conscious of architecture and design. CALA will house numerous programs with a gallery as its main attraction. AIA Los Angeles and A + D Museum will use CALA as their main headquarters which creates huge potentials for collaboration and large events.
.milestone + This semester marks the halfway point of my Bachelor of Architecture education. I am really excited for this project because it is an opportunity to put all the skills I have learned to the test. This is the first project that I have a whole semester to work on.
.goals + Even though I have learned so much about design, form, drawings, floor plans etc., I have not been completely satisfied with my work. The amount of time given for projects usually results in a sacrifice of one design expectation over another (or maybe I didn't push enough haha). I was able to push form, program and function in my past projects but they never felt complete. The amount of time given for CALA will allow me to push my design further. CALA will push form, program and function; however, my goal is to have a better understanding of structure and materialty. I want to design something that I can envision being built.
