While at the 2011 FM:Systems User Conference, we caught up with one of our partners, Dan Lorenz, vice president, AMS CAD + CAFM Solutions. He spoke a bit about global implementations and international expansion.

The FM:Systems User Conference

As the event planner for our annual user’s conference, I always feel a huge sense of relief this time of year – when the conference is over. It takes MONTHS of planning, trying to think of every little detail. The last three weeks leading up to the conference are at least 11 hour days. And the STRESS. I am a worrier by nature (did I advertise the correct dates? …..it would be terrible if people made flights for the wrong days….did I tell Jimmy to bring his Ipod?……did I make it clear where FM:Systems people are supposed to park?…..and on and on) But there are just so many details I could have forgotten that it’s off the charts. And then the week of the conference comes ……….and I remember what it’s all for.

It’s so great to see our customers face-to-face. So many times we’ve e-mailed or I’ve heard their name as customer support discusses cases, so it’s always good to put a face with a name. And our customers are truly nice folks. Some come every year, and we’ve had some fun discussions over the years while waiting for breakfast to start or during the reception about dating, children, music, etc. Certainly we talk a little software shop, but I really feel it’s about getting to know our customers as people – it just makes it so much more fun as we collaborate on various projects throughout the year. I’m never sure if I’m making complete sentences by this point, but I enjoy myself all the same.

And then comes the survey results, and I feel even better! While every conference has its bumps, the results are almost always overwhelmingly positive. It’s nice to know all that work paid off!! And it keeps me looking forward to next year. Here’s what a few of our customers had to say…..

Well worthwhile — I definitely gained from attending, and would not consider it a waste of time. Too many other conferences unfortunately fall into that category.

Good passing of information, learning how others are utilizing the software products.

The FM:Systems Users Conference provides an opportunity to follow up with other users who use the same release and modules and to compare the paths each have taken and the results each have experienced and to get excited about new opportunities to explore when we get back to the office. Having the opportunity to personally meet the FM:Systems staff, service providers and other users and to develop that personal relationship is what provides the most value to me.

I have a full understanding of what it is going to take to upgrade to FM:Interact 8.1. Between the training courses and the conference, this subject was covered in great detail. Understanding where the software functionality is going in the future helps me leverage for “funding” on the upgrades. I can talk intelligently about the value this software brings to my company.

I really appreciate the opportunity to talk to both FM:Systems staff and other users. I always feel like they are both straightforward and honest in their answers.
