The Long & Winding Road: Researching my Emerging Technology Final Project
I'm really interested how emerging technology is going to affect storytelling and narrative.
I'm already seeing cool things happening online w/r/t communal storytelling. Specifically this site that acts as a kind of wiki-generated encyclopedia of strange and mysterious (fictional) objects:
I like this idea of digital technology being used to harness a wellspring of hive-mind creativity. I'd like to explore what would happen if you introduced emerging technology into the mix.
Specifically:
3D Imaging - This article explores the history of 3D and how storytellers wield it to create new and interesting forms of narrative.
User Generated Content- This is a really interesting company that's democratizing game-building by investing in tools that facilitate user generated content
Shodan - I've cited this article before. But I think this really amazing technology. One of the things I like about SCP is how it uses the language of search engines to encourage creative discovery. Shodan is all about the act of discovery and I think it fits in well with my (still murky) UX.
Peter Molyneux - A legendary game designer who's doing big things in the world of social gaming. His game 'Curiosity' is a massively communal experience that blends interactivity, social gaming and mystery. Definitely a source of inspiration.
