There’s something almost more comforting to me about putting on a character. It’s a mode I’ve always been able to switch on and it disconnects me from myself or my usual anxieties. When I was younger working on the stage; I felt this out of body sensation when I was fully immersed, and ever since then I’m continuously searching to replicate that feeling of engrossment. I learned early on what felt right for me as an actor. I knew when something connected. I’ve learned to always trust my gut instincts getting into character because that’s usually more compelling than rehearsing something to death in a hyper specific way.
