38. 38/100 total points. This was the lowest he’d ever done on a test.
There had to be a mistake. At least that’s what Blaine wanted to think. But he knew that it was true. Two days ago, he remembered sitting in the test hall and staring at the questions. Even staring at them now after the review, it didn't click in his brain.
Sucking air through his teeth, Blaine sprinted out of the class. He felt eyes on him, as if they all knew of his poor performance. That tense atmosphere followed him and consumed him. Anybody who glanced at him added pressure in a way that almost drove him to tears. Blaine Anderson, valedictorian of his high school, son of the part time actress Shay Anderson, had failed a simple US government test.
When he got to his dorm, he prayed Puck wouldn’t be there. To his relief, he was out. Blaine threw his bag sloppily on the desk and tossed himself into the bed. The pressure around him focused into his eyes. Tears came soon after.
Thirty minutes later, he emerged from a deeply soaked pillow. His bowtie flopped loosely around as it came undone. With a sniffle, Blaine reached up and pulled it loose. Harder than he met, Blaine threw it against the small box that held the rest of his bow ties. Drained, Blaine flipped over and placed his head on the pillow. His wide eyes stared blankly up at the ceiling. His brain made patterns over the random mesh of the drywall. Eventually he drifted off to sleep.
He woke up an hour later. His face dried and still puffy. He pulled himself to a sitting position. Rubbing the back of his neck, Blaine attempted to collect himself. His chest bloomed as the feelings from an hour ago remerged. He leaned forward and ran his hand over his hair. His curly hair begged to unleash from it’s tight bonds. He sighed out as he leaned onto the side wall. He was exhausted.
He didn’t understand it. The whole inside of him was growing bigger and he felt like his whole life would end. His eyes drifted over to his desk. He had homework due at the end of the week. ‘There’s no point.’ He thought. ‘It’s only 1% of the grade. Not like the 15% like the test is.’
The base of his stomach shook. He turned his head away from his desk. Without much else, he flopped back over. All he wanted to do was go back to sleep. His phone buzzed and he flipped over and reached for it.
Shay Anderson transferred 1000.00 dollars into account x0000.
Blaine blinked at it. His lips pressed as he stared at it. He opened up his account to see the money transferred in. Blaine lifted himself up and walked over to the bathroom. He washed his face, repatted his hair and went for his jacket. Within five minutes, he was out the door, prepared for the five hour drive to WinStar World Casino.
