CATSURVEYS – Foulness Island 2015 Charity Bike Ride
As part of our ongoing commitment to support both Local and National charities across the UK a number of the CATSURVEYS team embarked on yet another charity attempt over the bank holiday weekend.
This year’s event organised by the Rotary Club of Thorpe Bay consisted of a 24 Mile bike ride across Foulness Island, an active MoD Firing Range situated along the east coast near Shoeburyness, Southend.
For just one day of the year the MoD and the islands residents (We couldn’t believe people lived there either…) allow the good the bad and crazy to ride on this beautiful yet extremely dangerous landscape in the name of raising money for a great cause.
Rich in history and wildlife the island has so much more to offer than your average cycle routes, with the opportunity to learn a little about the island thanks to the local residents who have developed a Heritage centre situated at the heart of island giving a brief insight into the history of life on the island dating back hundreds of years.
This year’s ride raised money for two deserving causes, the Keyhole Cancer Appeal and Riding for the Disabled (RDA) both of which rely on events such as this to receive the vital funding which will ensure that they can continue to provide first class care to those who need it most.
On Sunday afternoon whilst many were still recovering from Saturdays late night antics (Including one of our own) the team successfully completed the ride in a time of just over 1 Hour and 30 minutes.
As of yet we are unsure as to the total money which has been raised by this year’s event, but we will keep you updated when we find out more!
On behalf of everyone that took part in the event from CATSURVEYS we would like to say a huge thank you to the Thorpe Bay Rotary Club, the MoD and to the local residents of Foulness Island as without them the event would not take place and the opportunity for the public to see this hidden beauty would be missed by all.
