In Gujarat, Uttarayan is Called as Makar Sankranti which is celebrated for two days.

Kite Festival 2017 was celebrated from  08th January to 14th January, 2017 at  Sabarmati Riverfront Ahmedabad

14th January is Uttarayan 15th January is Vasi Uttarayan

Gujarati people keenly await this festival to fly kites, called Patang.

When people cut any kites they yell words like "kaypo chhe", "e lapet","jaay jaay","phirki vit phirki" and "lapet lapet" in Gujarati.

Sankranti means transmigration of the Sun from one Rāshi to the next.

Each Sankranti is marked as the beginning of a month in the sidereal solar calendars followed in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat & Nepal

In Tamil Nadu Makar Sankranti or Sankranthi is known as Pongal. In Gujarat and Rajasthan Makar Sankranti is known as Uttarayana. In Haryana and Punjab Makar Sankranti is known as Maghi.
