KAY! Let me start this off, I'm gonna tag my hate- cuz it's my fucking blog and I've read enough shit today. SECOND, I'm entitled to my own opinion on MY blog, just Wossy is on his twitter, and that other Sherlock guy (idfk; who the hell is Mark Gatiss?).
Well, Holmes is my absolute favourite. I have loved all sorts of adaptions; 22 Century, Great Mouse Detective, Rathbone, and most recently, Elementary. I love it- I laugh, I get to spend time with my grandmother (where she's not crying, but genuinely enjoying her life), and I LOVE being able to stare at the two sexy lead actors- cuz GOD DAMN! When watching it I don't try to see how it matches things I've read- I don't even try to solve anything, I just sit back and enjoy. I totally get that it's not for everyone, hey, I really didn't like House. But you know what I really hate? BBC Sherlock.
There's something off about it (RE: that one actor's creepy clear eyes...). I think it's stupid and tacky, and I hate what it's doing to my childhood. I spent years reading Sherlock Holmes and wanting to be the world's first consultingdetectivearchaeologist (because what five year old doesn't want to solve mysteries from inside a pyramid). The show is creating a whole new category of Holmes fans that def weren't around when kids were making fun of me for reading at recess. And I know people'll think I should be happy for my interests to be gaining widespread appeal, but I'm not. A lot of BBCS fans I know/see on tumblr entirely obnoxious, and so are the way the characters I love are portrayed. It hurts me to cut down something that people love so much, but this new THING is destroying something I have loved since before I can remember.
I really like Elementary, but if it's not for you, please, take what I'm doing as an example of what NOT to do; don't talk shit.
