Idk I just fucking hate reading articles on like…diy. I just read one that was like “for just under $300 you can turn your spare room into a photography studio with homemade items!!” And it listed a bunch of shit to buy

And it’s like…1) WHAT spare room I don’t even have room for a proper computer desk 2) I do not have $300 laying around hence why I am looking for diy options and 3) I can get an ACTUAL photography lighting kit for under $200 so wtf

Okay so let’s recap:

alt-reblog is only left-alt now, and it isn’t binding properly so now I download a useless html file every time I use it (Chrome/MacOS)

Endless scroll means that a) if I get super late in my dash and then click away I can’t get back to my page and b) after a while my browser starts to crap itself because its loaded too many assets

New text sizes make everything look cartoony (although they’re definitely an accessibility improvement? so that’s a bit of a wash)

oh! and my actual least favorite new feature: j and k scrolling is now “snappy” instead of scroll-y, which I doooo not like. The benefit of being able to “get past” long posts faster is way outweighed by the fact that it feels super mechanical and flow-breaking.

No idea what the value of this post is, but anyone who cares can consider this my public thumbs-down on the redesign. @ major social media companies: mobile-first design (imo the reason for the endless scroll, if nothing else) is bad for browser users always!!! It’s one thing to want to have a “single experience” of the platform, but what you’re sacrificing is the main way that a substantial chunk of your user base uses the damn thing.

Particularly with a uh... blogging platform??? where you write out long text posts like this on your computer???
