Perks of Taking the Public Transportation
I have to admit, I am not really fond of taking the public transpo. A lot of Filipinos might agree with me when I say that public transportation in the Philippines isn't really the best. Because of the hassle in commuting, I just prefer travelling using our own car. However, this morning, I tried to ride a public transpo for a change. During my 25 km (approx 16 miles) journey, I realized these thoughts:
1. There are some instances where commuting actually costs less as compared to using your own car. This morning, I road a public transportation, which instead of a bus, a van was used and they called it UV Express. The vehicle has a seating capacity of 14-18 persons. A round trip cost me only Php 60.00. And I didn't even have to think about the parking fee.
2. You don’t have to worry about the parking. Sometimes, I feel like certain places here in the Philippines, mostly the cities, are becoming too congested with private cars, which is why finding a good parking space is really a challenge. But, by using the public transportation, after you were dropped off, that’s it!
3. You can meet new people, and you’ll feel good. For an introvert like me, interacting with people isn't something I would bother doing. But, sometimes it just feels nice to meet some people who are pleasant and kind, someone who would help you close the door when you’re having a trouble finding your force, or someone who would help you with the directions when you’re in an unfamiliar place. And lastly...
4. It is actually environment-friendly. Many people would probably choose comfort over anything else. True, you might feel comfortable using your own car. But just think of how much energy you could save if you took the public transpo. These vehicles travel on a regular basis whether their full seating capacity were met or not. If you opt to ride your own car, you are just consuming more energy and more space in the road. If there will be lesser private cars in the roads and highways, we could actually avoid having traffics and we could save energy.
I am not saying that we should not use our private vehicles anymore. I am just saying that maybe there are some instances where you might want to consider taking the public transportation and don’t forget to think of these perks when making your decision. :) Keep safe, everyone!
