Sean Baek Found: Missing UWM Student Found in Milwaukee River

Missing UWM student Sean Baek has been found deceased in the Milwaukee River. His mother is remembering his love of college - and life.

The body that Milwaukee Police pulled from the Milwaukee River last night has been identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner as University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student Sean Baek, 18, who had been missing for 45 days.

BRITTANY CAVALLARO SELLS HER NOVEL

SIWAR MASANNAT WINS 2014 FIRST BOOK PRIZE

Siwar Masannat has won the 2014 First Book Prize, selected by Ilya Kaminsky, for her forthcoming Spring 2015 book 50 Water Dreams. Siwar Masannat is an Arab writer from Amman, Jordan. She holds an M.F.A. in poetry from George Mason University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Creative Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Siwar co-founded Gazing Grain Press, a chapbook publisher open to feminists of every gender and sexuality. Her poems and articles have appeared in Denver Quarterly, VOLT, Gargoyle, and 7iber.me, among others.

Our own Louise Zamparutti, Ph.D. student in Professional Writing, opens her play on Friday, September 26. "Identita" is a one-act comedy. Set in a small village on the Italy-Slovenian border, it tells the story of a brother and sister who fought the Germans and each other in opposing factions of the Italian resistance during WWII.
