the beginning of the end–*
@uwyoongi
...in hindsight, becoming so fixated on a vampire was probably the beginning of the end.
kangjoon has never really been one for following the rules. part of him thinks it’s the result of growing up without parents in a world on a one way train to hell. in reality, it probably has a lot to do with misdirected resentment towards the authority figures that were in his life- the ones who think they’ve taught him everything he knows. (pretentious motherfuckers is what they are, but kangjoon often bites his tongue in their presence if for no other reason than to keep from wasting his breath.) regardless of the reason, that lack of care tends to get him into more trouble than he’s worth.
this situation is no different.
he isn’t sure when he stopped really trying to kill yoongi. can’t put his finger on when it became a game of cat and mouse rather than a game of life and death. at first, he blamed his lack of precision on yoongi’s speed and trickery. then, he blamed the adrenaline making his hands shake (a rookie mistake he hasn’t made since before he was recruited, but the mind often seeks to fabricate realities when the current one isn’t ideal). now, though. now he’s simply stuck in limbo with no real reason as to why. the ferocity in his bite is still there- if given the chance, he’d certainly wound yoongi. the question is simply of whether or not that wound would be a mortal one. at least, so to speak, seeing as how yoongi is hardly mortal anymore. but he digresses.
a strange mixture of excitement and horror settles itself into kangjoon’s stomach at the thought of seeing yoongi again tonight- though the latter is almost entirely a response to the first feeling. really, he shouldn’t be so fucking thrilled to be looking death in the eyes again for the umpteenth night in a row, but he is and it’s pathetic. he’s almost accepted it. not quite, but almost.
it doesn’t take him long to come upon the location of their most recent skirmish; a nearly empty sky rise building, save for a security guard dozing at his post as the time nears eleven. these sights aren’t too uncommon anymore- the incentive to work overtime has vanished as steadily as the employees who took the initiative did. as he rounds the corner into yet another winding alleyway, he thumbs the handle of the knife in his hand- a comforting weight in an otherwise eerie situation.
“as much as i know you love chasing tail,” kangjoon starts, a sneer on his lips, sarcasm on his tongue. “if you follow me around all night waiting for me to find you, this won’t be any fun. we've been through this before- so why don’tcha come on out so we can play something a little more interesting than hide and seek.”
