hc + 🐈 for a pet/animal-themed headcanon

SHE DO, SHE DO.

ok some quick-fire cat hc's (some i've written before but i can't rmb if i deleted the posts):

rogathe - black cat, single yellow eye (the other is sewn shut after having been extracted due to an infection), rowdy, playful, moody, selective in being held

tarasyl - long-haired grey cat with a white teardrop spot on her nose, green eyes, a big, spoiled baby. was a runaway house cat from some orlesian town (supposedly), revenelan took her in and kept her knowing she probably belonged to someone else. she feels like she should be guilty but she isn't. super cuddly and extremely food motivated.

nuven - calico, blue eyes, stained with a peculiar blue pigment that has only been moderately washed away. found by a clansmember when trading in a human city, eventually realized that the cat was hiding from its "owners" because it was marked for bait in dogfighting rings. immediately swooped him up and he has only known love and happiness ever since. has anxiety.

some non-cat related hc's (need fleshing out):

there are two dogs within clan aravun, belonging to some of the hunters. these pups accompany the clan's hunters on hunts, excursions, scouting, etc. very smart and protective. best boys.

also a part of the hunter group is a falcon, belonging to the head hunter. i'd imagine it's a rare occurrence? so the clan is particularly proud of this lil birb.

revenelan has her own halla which she occasionally rides, named lavan. he's a beautiful creature, with intricately carved horns that revenelan took years to complete. still fleshing this out.

overall: lots of animals in clan aravun. unsurprising given the nature of the dalish but also, as a clan known among the dalish for their healers, their halla-keepers are very skilled in the realm of animal care/vet practice.

Revenelan nodded slowly with a look of solemn contemplation, a mask for the uncertainty that now plagued her mind. Never had she heard of such a feat, neither from spirit nor mentor. As Solas spoke of the rigorous discipline and concentration it demanded, Revenelan couldn't help but question whether her own abilities were unworthy, or worse, that she were deemed unfit by the Creators to be bestowed such a gift. The thought prickled her skin, and whatever admiration she felt for him was, yet again, tainted by a murky sense of jealousy. She needed to do better, to be better.

"I see," Revenelan started slowly, careful to mind the bitter edge to her voice. She continued with a thin attempt to sound lighter than she felt, "It appears the spirits have their favorites, don't they?" A forced chuckle followed, its emptiness mirroring the unsettling thoughts that lingered within her.

"How long did it take you to learn?" Revenelan then inquired, bracing herself for an answer that could only further shatter her fragile confidence or become the catalyst for a newfound determination to prove herself.

"HARRIT!"

Revenelan's voice echoed through the cavernous stairwell as she practically danced her way down to Skyhold's bustling Undercroft. The rhythmic sounds of metal meeting metal intensified her excitement, matched only by the rapid beating of her heart. Clutched tightly against her chest was a worn, cloth bundle, concealing an extraordinary item she had stumbled upon in the Dales—a discovery so precious she hadn't uttered a word of it to her companions.

With each step, she couldn't help but wonder how Harrit, the skilled smith, would react. The anticipation fueled her urgency. As she approached the fiery entrance to the Undercroft, she skidded to a halt. There, before the blazing furnaces, stood an unexpected figure; robust, dark haired with golden horns jutting out of his head. Her brow furrowed in concern; this wasn't the bald, bushy-mouthed shem she sought.

"Hello?" Revenelan called out over the clamor, trying to catch the horned stranger's attention. Stepping closer, she repeated, "Hello?! Is Harrit here, the smith? I must speak to him urgently!"

Revenelan’s attention darted from Talon to the scroll before her, her brow raised in interest. It wasn’t often that the Inquisitor came bearing gifts, his presence in the makeshift apothecary alone being cause for curiosity. She wiped her hands clean with the rough, stained apron around her waist, adding to the smears of dirt and dried chlorophyll from her harvest earlier, and reached out for the scroll.

She unwrapped the green cord that bound the scroll and carefully unfurled it. The parchment was thick, flexible and clean, clearly new and of good quality; the sort of paper that was used to preserve important manuscripts. Revenelan slowly scanned each line of meticulous handwriting, a crease forming between her brow as she absorbed each word.

“Hold on…”  

Before long, the recognition of the tale in her grasp washed over her, igniting her gaze, blazing with a mix of astonishment and disbelief. Her honey eyes raced across the page, while silently mouthing the words, as if reading them in her mind wasn’t sufficient to embed them into reality.

“Talon, sweetling,” Her gaze flicked up to the Inquisitor, her eyebrows knit deeper as she tried to make sense of what he had given her. “Am I understanding correctly that this is… a new recounting of Adahlenan'vir Tirashan? The Second Betrayal?”

“I'm getting too old for this nonsense.”

"Psh. Hardly, my dear. Nonsense is a pastime friendly for all-ages, and here in the Inquisition, it does not come in short supply." With a final tuck, Revenelan gently tugged to test the fresh bandage wrapped taut around Fenris' arm, deciding it was secure enough when it did not budge. While she had him in her midst, she did a quick once-over just to be sure Fenris wasn't trying to be brave about any serious wounds, as warriors often did. It seemed most of the blood that soaked his leathers was thankfully not his own – impressive, and perhaps a little scary, considering the bloodbath left in their wake.

"Though I do agree, it does become rather exhausting after a while." Revenelan offered him a sympathetic smile, her weariness evident by the slight discolouration ringed beneath her hazel eyes. "I bet it will feel incredibly strange when this has all come to pass. I don't think I can recall what it was like to wake up without the shadow of imminent doom looming over me. To think, before the rifts, the worst of my worries were bandits and broken down aravels."

“Locked tight, but there must be some way to open it." (Hello, I hope this is okay!)

Revenelan's skin prickled as she felt a dreadful chill wash over her, her chest growing tight. Suddenly, she was very acutely aware of how the cavernous tunnel behind her seemed to constrict the longer she peered down its dark, dank path.

"Cultists and their shoddy, overdone labyrinths," Revenelan huffed, shaking her head with a frown. "Would it trouble them so to build their hideouts somewhere above-ground, for a change? Perhaps a nice house on the beach?"

Anchored with a white-knuckled grip on her ironbark staff, Revenelan turned back to place a hand on the heavy, rusted metal door that caged her from the outside world.

"The door's lodged tight into the stone, clean off it's hinges – can you see it? It must have swung closed with quite a force when the tremors hit. Ugh." Revenelan chewed the inside of her cheek, her brow knit tightly as she considered her options. The cavern entrance was still a ways away – the Inquisitor could leave to get help, but the thought of having to wait any longer, and by her lonesome, was nauseating. Revenelan swallowed. "Do you think we would bring the whole cavern down if we were to try to blast it open?"

"Is that so?" Revenelan chuckled warmly as she brushed the pearlescent fur of a young halla, the clan's newest fawn, as it grazed peacefully upon the lush bushes and grassy undergrowth below. The three stood bathed in the dappled morning light of the Dales, the forest air quiet except for the chittering of distant woodland creatures, rustling leaves, and the low hum of conversation from the waking camp. The smell of fire and charred wood wafted from within the circle of aravels; breakfast would soon be prepared. Revenelan hoped they would have enough food to serve the guests Clan Aravun had found themselves hosting unexpectedly; a small party, travel-worn and weary, bearing a familiar yet curious banner: one of a sword through a flaming eye.

"I suppose I, too, would relish any small amount of obscurity at your height of fame; of which I can only imagine is considerable, since word of your... organization has reached even our ears, so deep in the woods as we are." She glanced at the blonde elf - Pelle, was his name - offering a friendly smile while she peered between his vallaslin, and the glinting, golden brooch of the flaming eye upon his breast. "The Inquisition, is it?" She inquired, though the interest in her look suggested that Revenelan was asking something more. How does one of the People find themselves bearing the mark of an Andrastian order?
