Ellen was sitting in her squad car. Next to a donut shop of all places. She reveled in the irony of it. She liked to fit the cop stereotype sometimes. She noshed on some donuts and sipped on her coffee waiting for the radio to buzz on telling her where to go next. She knew the voice she wanted to hear ring through too. There wasn’t a face she could place to him but they’d started to bond through the air waves. She was rolling partnerless today. So she wouldn’t get sent to anything too dangerous until he was back from leave.

They'd only been in their new home for a few months now, but they'd definitely already made it their own. Even with both Dean and Ellen working full time they managed to spend their time off filling their place with mismatched furniture but it all worked. They'd already filled it with plenty of memories...on the couch, the kitchen counter, the shower... yeah they'd been busy taking advantage of having a place with out having to worry about Mary or Bobby hearing them. Not like they didn't know they'd been together going on six years now.

All of which is why she wasn't so surprised to see those two little blue lines. She'd been late this month and that was very unusual for her. She'd gotten her rotten manager at the diner to let her go home early. She really had to crank up the water works on for that one. So on the way home she stopped by the pharmacy and picked up a pregnancy test getting home, thankfully before Dean. She locked herself in the bathroom, opened that box and took the test and waited in there. After 40 minutes that's when she'd seen it. Two lines. TWO! 

She screamed with excitement. Hand instinctively moving to her tummy. Just resting there. She was so wrapped up in her own mind she didn't hear Dean come home.

"Please don't leave again"

Tears were swelling in her eyes. So much so she couldn’t see straight. Which might even be a good thing right now. She couldn’t bare to look at him.

It had been almost a year since she’d been transferred there and she still hadn’t been adopted. They were transferring her. Again. She begged and she pleaded and explained, but nothing worked. The system rendered her powerless. She stormed out of there running off into the woods. She needed to be alone. Try and get herself together somehow. She cried for a long while just getting it all out. At least as much as she could and the worst part was the only person who could make her feel better would make it sting a million times worse. 

She needed to tell him though. No matter how terrible it was going to be. She walked there taking the long way needed the time to breathe. Think about how she was going to tell him. She couldn’t come up with anything good at all and before she knew it she was knocking on his door. The smile as he saw her standing there…. shattered her heart in her chest. “I’m being transferred to Oregon…” She couldn’t even bring herself to say hey. She couldn’t even wait til they were inside.

And that’s where she stood. At his doorstep. Eyes flooded with tears as he begged her to stay. “You know, better than anybody, that I’d do anythin’ t’ stay..” she had to stop, wiping at her eyes. “There’s nothin’ I can do..” She always knew this day would come and it hurt her even more than she thoguht it would. “I’m so sorry, Dean.. I—” She couldn’t take this. The one time her life seemed to be working and it was all being ripped away and there wasn’t a thing she could do.

"I think I broke it."

"Oh don’t worry about that, sugar, we got plenty more where that came from.." She said coming over to collect the broken shards of glass. "You alright there, sweetheart? Takes a lot to break one of these bad boys. Trust me I know from experience."
