The words fall from numb lips. The world is crashing around him, spiraling in, sandpaper against his skin, everything too close and much too far away. The Flare-bred rage climbs and before he even realizes what he's doing he hurls himself at the man, tackling him to the ground, hissing and screaming, he bites the man's arm before anyone's realized what's happening, he kicks and scratches and there are arms around his waist and his arms and he's being dragged back but it's not true, Callum can't be dead--
"NO!" He's screaming now, a roar tearing from his vocal cords, it's not true, he's still there, Newt would know, he'd know if Callum was dead, just like he'd known in the Scorch when he'd tried, it's not true it's not true it's not true
He feels the arm around his neck and he scratches at it, trying to escape, but he can't get through the gear the old Palace guard is wearing and one, two, three seconds later he falls into blackness, still holding onto that thought--it's not true--it can't be true, when he wakes up Callum will be there, he'll be there, he can't be dead.
