Such a s p i t f i r e || Stinchester Fireman AU
Some might say his chosen profession is strange. Not because of the actual work of it, but because of his own past. What sort of child watches his mother die in a fire and chooses to work with it for the rest of his life? The same type of man that decides just because he couldn't save her, doesn't mean he can't save others.
He'd moved to Beacon Hills shortly after seeing Sammy off to boarding school. His little brother had one helluva strong mind and the ambition to go with it. Dean worked his ass off and so did Sam, and eventually the kid got not only a scholarship to the private boarding school but a full ride to Stanford when he graduates. So Dean had found a place nearby, found a fire station in Beacon Hills and got to work. The Hale fire happened in his first few months, he was still a newbie but was hailed as one of the heroes of that place. He got out not only Derek but Laura as well. Peter had third degree burns on most of his body but he made it out alive.
Because of this little success - and the guilt from not saving the rest - Dean and Sheriff Stilinski had gotten rather close, rather quickly. Dean had watched Stiles grow up - from that hyperactive, flailing child to the still-flailing, semi-hyperactive almost-adult he is today. He's got a good 7 years on the kid, but he can admit Stiles had grown into himself.
He knows better though. The Sheriff would slaughter him, and so despite his own wants he stays friendly, but not flirty. Today he's to meet the Stilinski's for their annual once a month dinner - real family oriented, that Sheriff - and has brought his quickly favored mashed potatoes to join. Easy on the good stuff of course. Stiles has that ability to be just as scary as his father when it comes to Johns health - and the kid doesn't even need a gun to aid him.
"-- Anyone home?"
The door was left unlocked, and he can smell the delicious aromas of the dinner to be had, but it's a little quiet.
