Basil hated school. It was boring, and he didn’t like any of the other children in his class. He was a small boy of five years old, but that didn’t stop him from trying to appear like an adult. A carefully planned escape, with no help from anyone else - any five year old would be proud. He waited for the perfect opportunity, and as soon as it arose he darted around the corner, climbing over the gate and out of sight.
Now he was alone on the other side of the gate - the outside. He’d never gotten this far on his own without being caught before. Basil wandered along the pavement, watching cars pass by, until he almost walked straight into a blue police box. He was sure that hadn’t been there this morning. He stepped back to get a better look at it. Why was it here? Was there somebody inside? Basil couldn’t read every word, but he did know the word ‘police’ for sure. Was there a policeman inside? Only one way to find that out. He knocked on one of the doors, and considered running away as soon as he’d done it, but decided against it.
