We've got a little under 20 minutes until our Appless Event starts. I'll probably stick around until then but head to bed right after. In the mean time I'm still around to take questions!
Valley Poll: Which should be our festival's theme?
Alright, so thanks to the decoration committee, there are a few themes that the valley has to choose from for our upcoming Origin Day festival. Please take a look and answer the post with the one you like the most!
Theme #1 Red String of Fate: This theme is based around the celebration of dolls and makers. The days would consist of things that bring people together, from ties of different colors where you're randomly paired off with someone each day, to lanterns being let go over the lake on the final night of the festival.
Theme #2 Summer Festival: This one would be picnics by the lake, a flea market and a Wishing Tree, and every day would be a different theme like beach sports one day, then the next a scavenger hunt in the woods, etc. And on the final festival day, we would have a huge bonfire and make s'mores.
Theme #3 Carnival: This is a lot like it sounds though the Game Committee would have a bit more say in this. There would be games, and you could win tickets to trade in later for prizes. There would be rides like the Ferris wheel, a kissing booth (hurr) etc, and there would also be typical carnival foods, too!
Theme #4 Masquerade: Each day we would be dedicated to preparing for the final day of the festival at which point we could hold an extravagant ball; one day we would wear dress robes instead of regular clothing, another we would be making our masks, etc. We could also stage a different play each night if that is of interest to everyone.
Theme #5 Tea Party: We would base it a bit off of Alice in Wonderland, with each day being a different mini-theme to her story. One day it could be centered around a simple garden and then another day would be centered on the Queen of Hearts kingdom with a croquet game and everything. We would have different flavors of tea, and it would be as though the Valley citizens are "crashing" the tea party.
Please choose ONE theme for your answer. The theme with the most votes by 11 PM tomorrow (EST) will be used!
Note: Thanks for everyone's hard work with coming up with these themes. I'm hoping that there will be interaction with more committees within the coming week.
Thanks,
Tinkerer Yifan.
Oh wait. I'm still a cat. Meow.
« ✤ » Special Announcement: Origin Day Committees and Tasks
Okay, thanks to Lu Han, we were able to dig up something that could shed some light on the history of the Valley. We don't know where it came from, or who actually wrote it, but it is EXTREMELY helpful in getting to know a little more about our home. Please direct yourself here to read it. If anyone recalls Memorial Day weekend, you know that I brought up the old legend of this town's festival that celebrated the connection between maker and doll, right? Well, since we have a little less than a month before the festival, I think now is a good time for everyone to start working towards it. The committees have leaders that were appointed by their skill in the area, while the rest of the groups were picked at random. We're all friends here, so I'm sure that everyone will like the group that they've been placed in.
Please Note: Just because you've been placed in a committee, does not mean that you are bound to speaking to only the people in your assigned group. The groups are only in place for tasks to be accomplished (either by para or script, whichever you prefer). Committees are encouraged to mingle, some are going to have to get their supplies or ideas from others. This is just to create new friendships by working together to achieve a common goal.
So, If you will, please take a look at the list of committees and see what you've been assigned!
Take care,
Tinkerer Yifan
*Note: THANK YOU to the Lu Han the perfect being for writing that lovely backstory, rhyme and all. This is why we love you.
Memorial Weekend Message and a Valley History Lesson
Good day valley citizens!
Woah, okay, that was a little too formal. Hey there. It’s your in-town tinkerer Yifan here to wish you all a happy memorial day-weekend. Take some time to remember the people who fought for our country, and make sure to eat good food, but don’t make yourself sick, okay? ^^;; for those who are outside of America and don’t celebrate memorial day, then please enjoy today as you would any other day – love those who are your family, your friends, and even the random stranger that you might mutter a hello to in passing them on the sidewalk. We never know whose lives could be (or become) intertwined with our own, who might have an impact on us one day, or who might just be that one person that we can count on in the future.
With that last part being said, I would like to share with you all a custom that ended long ago, when the supposed-original creator of dolls first passed away. It was a festival that occurred the first week of July, from the research that I’ve done. You see, there’s a tendency for people to become separated from their dolls, either by fate or just pure accident (of course, there’s the intentional abandonment as well, but let’s not dwell on this). It was believed by the original creator that the first week of July, dolls that were abandoned had a greater chance of either finding their maker, or that their strings would become ready for someone else to control. The festival helps to honor that belief with celebration, which will help abandoned dolls and doll-less makers meet and hopefully find a companionship. From there the details are sketchy… I haven’t found any more information on it at the library, but I’m sure that we got the gist of it.
So I figured: why not bring this back into the valley? It could bring some fun into our town, perhaps even new dolls and makers that might need a home. It would have the same principles of the original festival, but it’ll be our own. We’ll just need different committees to work on things like decorations…and food…entertainment….
……..We need to name it first….
Okay, so the first step will be to name it. I know it’s a little ways off but it’s best to start thinking of these things early right? Let’s consider this an idea for now, and then once we’re closer to it, we can think of everything that should go into the first week of July…. I’m thinking a paper-lantern release the night that the festival ends, for all those who are still searching. It would be nice.
Well, I’ve probably bored you long enough, so I’ll stop here. If you need me, you know what shop to find me in.
Your local tinkerer,
--Yifan
