reminder that marcie is ALWAYS wearing sunglasses in her new vegas verse unless they are inside a poorly lit room, or a cave or something. she’s photophobic due to the conditions in her vault, so her eyes are not something people usually see. even in her photos.

in marcie’s travels, official and leisurely, locals are always telling her their troubles in case she can help them. it ranges from stuff like ‘a ghoul tripped and fell into my well’ or ‘my son is mia and i haven’t heard back from the ncr, can you find out what happened to him?’ and it’s really weighing her down. having to smile at people and say she’ll do her best to help them when it’s entirely out of her control, as she is simply a promotional tool.

      MARCIE.         a memoir. 

One of the best selling books in the history of the New California Republic, Marcie, a Memoir was written by Marcie Lindell, and published by the New California Board of Public Relations. Focused on vault life, her time in the Legion, and her beginnings working with the NCR as a seamstress then a goodwill ambasador, the book is heavily sanitized or exaggerated. Marcie purposefully left out things she felt were too personal to share, and her team of ghost writers heavily revised her drafts to favor the NCR as much as possible, especially their treatment of her when they obtained custody of her after her escape and that they originally had no plans to rescue her when attempting to rescue the soldiers in Legion-controlled Nelson. The book makes no mention of her relationship (or lack there of) with Alexus, Dead Sea’s twin brother. Yet the book is detailed and graphic in depictions of the cruelty she faced under the Legion.  Includes full color and never before seen pictures of Marcie!

i’ve been writing marcie for a long time now and her new vegas verse is a bit dusty so here is her long story short: marcie was captured by the legion, spent about 8 months with a bomb collar, stabbed the same guy multiple times, and was taken in by the ncr. they interrogated her for info on Dead Sea (said stabee) and the Legion in general, and after she willingly gave them as much info as she had (which was plenty) the ncr hired her as a seamstress, and let her work towards ncr citizenship. her plan was to move to sandy springs eventually.  a few months later, she was seen by the head of the Office of Public Relations and after hearing her story, they hired her as a model for propaganda posters, appeared in charity calendars, and eventually they had her write a heavily sanitized version memoir, mostly of her time under Legion subjugation. it was a best seller, and she is now a ncr socialite, appearing at soldier and  officer events, and being sponsored and appearing in ncr-approved advertisements. her official title is “Goodwill Ambassador”. 

eventually she tires of her tightly controlled public persona, and dealing with the trauma of her time with the Legion, begins acting out (breaking away from her bodyguard multiple times) the ncr begins to reduce her public activity and restricts her to seamstress work, until they come to an agreement.  they give her unsettled land in their Oregon territory, and years later the Lindell Township opens, making her the de facto mayor. she runs a brahmin ranch, and more people begin moving to the town. eventually she re-enters public life, running for a seat in the ncr congress, which she wins. thus begins her life as an ncr brahmin rancher politician.

new vegas stuff: marcie wears this style of sunglasses for her modeling, since her usual big bulky goggles don’t look so cute. of course she has her goggles nearby, and people HAVE seen what she looks like with nothing covering her eyes but she doesn’t explain why she needs them. common indoor lighting is still too strong for her eyes, so she prefers to wear sunglasses when taking photos, due to bulb flashes.

Sometimes letting your hair down meant putting it away. Sunglasses were her signature, but those couldn’t go, she needed them. Cover her hair, smudge some dirt on her face, wear some worn down and dirty-looking clothes and she looked like anyone else. So, here she sat in the Atomic Wrangler, drinking dingy water in a equally dingy glass, watching the performance of the evening. a 5 piece girl band who played covers and some original material, and between songs they’d take requests and let the patrons showerthem with caps. Almost anything for a tip, she supposes. From Marcie’s seat at the bar, she couldn’t throw a cap far enough if she wanted to.  Turning to the stranger sitting next to her, Marcie took another sip of her drink and set it down. “Would you let people throw money at you, knowing it hurts?” The  little blonde singer at the front of the stage was flinching as the audience pelted her with the bottle cap currency.
