Eleanor approached her mother, her eyes glued to the floor in front of her as she took baby steps towards the good doctor. She wondered if it was common for someone to approach their mother in this way, like a sinner approaching the confessional.
Sofia Lamb was a tall, slender woman, When Eleanor was younger she seemed to tower over her no matter where she stood. Despite her slender appearance, the woman’s features appeared to her daughter as though they were etched out of stone. She looked immovable, unbreakable, unlike Eleanor who looked looked as though she was just just waiting for a strong gust of wind to blow her tiny frame away. The years seemed to bounce off of her, like even time itself was inclined to bend to her will. She looks just as she did when Eleanor’s father died, ten years had left no impression on her. The same could not be said of Eleanor. His imprint was as deep as the scars his murder left on her mind.
She stood behind her mother, waiting to be noticed. After a few moments of silence, she finally realized Dr. Lamb was too caught up in her work to notice her daughter standing behind her.
“Mother? Are you busy?” Her voice was small and hushed.
