     The archangel’s sudden voice startled her more than she’d have liked to admit. The bottle in her hand jolted upward, brown liquid inside sloshed around as she fumbled to keep it from slipping between her fingers. Getting a firm grip on the neck she let out a relieved sigh before turning to look at him. He received a lopsided smirk as she gave a slight shrug.

          “What I do best, caused a lil’ trouble and found the booze,” she shook the bottle lightly. “A better question is what have YOU been doin’ this entire time?”

     A smile cracked across her face as the bound titan offered to have her bribe him for the answers to her questions. She bridged her fingertips together before leaning back in her chair, grin widening even more. To say she was eager to hear what a titan would request from her was an understatement. Now that they could communicate with one another there was no telling. And of course, she would be unable to assist him in freeing him of this form and she was certain he knew that but she was still willing to humor him.

          “Alright...I’ll bite. What’s the price to get that information?” She asked, watching him carefully.

          “Well, it appears you’re a few steps ahead of me, I’m still on that self-destructive path that’ll lead me to an early grave,” she then held up her glass of whiskey before shooting it back, grimacing as it burned all the way down. At least she hadn’t gotten to the point where it didn’t burn anymore, albeit, she felt she wasn’t too far away from that if she continued with how she’d been drinking. And while she had made some very questionable choices in her life she hadn’t reached a stopping point.

          “Anyway,” she said, recovering from the strong liquor to look back to Abby, “more power to ya for gettin’ over it. Obviously, there are better thin’s ya can do than just drugs, alcohol, and sex. You can feel alive just doin’ stuff like skydivin’, bungee jumpin’, scalin’ the side of a mountain. Anythin’ to get yer heart racin’ and that adrenaline pumpin’. I don’t think a life of just work is all that satisfyin’. But that’s also just me,” she shrugged lightly.

         “I couldn’t have said it better myself,” Faye grinned widely. The plan was almost elementary and could have serious repercussions but in order to get close to their target without causing too much of a ruckus required it. The target, a man well known for having extravagant balls with dangerous men and women of all types, was to be taken out as inconspicuously as possible to not draw attention to their client who was also attending the party. 

          “The best part about typically bein’ smart with your plans is when ya do somethin’ stupid it catches your enemies off guard even more and leaves them stumblin’. But, I mean, havin’ to come to the actual party where pretty much everyone is packin’ and tryin’ to kill this guy without our client bein’ blamed is gonna be quite the challenge.”

Poetry

          “Well, that all really depends. Is there any physical evidence that it did happen? Eye witness? Pictures? Or is it just somethin’ you were told?” Faye questioned. Memories were fragile and tricky things. She was a strong believer that the mind could create memories and that existing ones could be altered, especially over time. The mind was extremely powerful after all.

          “Perhaps it was real though. If traumatic enough you could have blocked it completely. And there’s a lot of shit in this world that I’m sure plenty of people pretend never happened and with enough commitment...it can all go away,” she shrugged lightly.

    Faye remained slouched in the couch, its cushions and blankets threatening to suck her deep into its depths were remotes, crumbs, and missing socks resided. This was the third movie they had binged where the young adult kids had predictably investigated or run straight into the killer’s trap. As he turned to her, she shoveled a handful of popcorn into her mouth, as he had done before. Cheeks were puffed out, mimicking a chipmunk as she slowly chewed, waiting for him to speak to her. Her brows furrowed, having expected something completely different. With a painful swallow, she gulped down the mostly chewed food. 

          “What is NOT what I was expectin’ you to say,” she laughed, sitting up to reach for her drink on the coffee table in front of them. “Thought you were gonna hit me with some facts. But I guess no one really knows how they’d react in that position. I run into the face of danger all the time for my job...guess I’d be considered pretty stupid myself. But I’d like to think I wouldn’t purposely try pissin’ off demons and ghosts and stuff. Can’t really kill those.”

     There’s a moment of silence as she ponders over the very plausible reality that she could have power and irresponsibility. She was halfway there. All she needed now was to figure out how to get the power and the money that usually came along with it. Smiling, Faye nodded, looking back to Eddie. 

          “I like the way you think, I don’t suppose you have any ideas? Promise I’ll share in the wealth and irresponsibility?” She grinned, raising and lowering her eyebrows playfully at him.

     She had located this place by mere accident, finding it during her wanderings around in the woods. Often, she found herself drawn to the quiet, serene location, able to listen as the waves lapped at the beach, wearing down any ragged rocks that were brought down by the river that fed into the lake. Arriving at the dead of night, per usual, she froze, spotting a figure walking toward the center of the lake. Her eyes widened in awe as she tried figuring out how he was able to do that. 

     She walked along the coast, wondering if she should call out or if that would disrupt his flow and cause him to drop. Though, if he noticed her then maybe it was less likely he’d fall in. For a split second, she thought about it possibly being that he was walking on a sand bar but she had swum the entirety and never once came across any such sandbar. Faye watched as the fireflies blinked their way across the lake. It was certainly a sight but she was interested in finding out who this mystery person was and how in God’s name he was able to walk across the water as if it were solid ground.
