Flashing lights filled the late-night streets with bright, enticing lights that beckoned the patrons to enter the lively clubs and bars. The people that remained out, laughed and shouted excitedly, pulling friends and partners along the still bustling streets. A set of stairs led down to a bar a bit quieter compared to the rest. The bang of pool balls echoed in the dimly lit bar, followed by a chorus of jeers and laughs of the small group of adults. Some old rock song played just loud enough to be heard in between conversations from the various clusters of people. It was relaxed and perfect to enjoy the night with friends with who had enjoyed their wild years and for those trying to keep out of trouble.
Mismatched colored eyes fell on the nearly empty bottle of bourbon sitting beside her, one of her hands wrapped protectively around the neck as if worried it might be taken away. If the bartender wasn’t so green he might’ve done so already. Her lips pulled back in a large smile as she shoved her shoulders upward, spinning around in her seat to face the stranger.
“You’re probably right, but that’s not gonna slow me down any tonight. The night is young and I’ve got nothin’ else to do. Finished up a successful job that put a bit of dough in my pockets. Figured after a month of work I could make a couple mistakes,” she laughed, “don’t suppose you’d care to join?”
