Penthesilea was a legendary Amazonian heroine who fought in the Trojan War. She eliminated many men in battle before coming face to face with the Greek hero, Achilles. He defeated Penthesilea, but upon realizing who she was, he quickly lamented his victory. Heartbroken, Achilles returned her body to the Trojans for a proper burial. Thersites, a fellow Greek soldier, mocked Achilles for mourning. So against orders and in a rage, Achilles killed Thersites for it.
