After Saïx had dispensed the missions for the day, Xion was ready to go. She’d been paired with Xigbar this time for some recon-- and, of course, Heartless hunting. “Ready to go?” she asked her partner, already standing next to the corridor that would lead them to their destination. “Wonder what kind of place we’re going to today!” 

While Roxas was asleep, it was up to her to carry the weight of gathering hearts and fulfill both of their quotas. Even though her thoughts often wandered back to her friend, she knew she had to concentrate first and foremost on the mission. Xigbar would undoubtedly be evaluating her performance, too... Tension gripped in her shoulders, but what else could she do?

“Wait, Axel, you killed people?” That’s not very nice.

ϟ  ┇ Overthrowing the organization was a long awaited desire to the nymph; nobody - could interfere with her and number XI’s plan. The marble flooring of the castle vibrated faintly under her boots - the light tapping of footsteps advancing in proximity. To her surprise, the other black hooded figure was none other than her fiery counterpart. For the past few weeks, it has been alarmingly obvious how awfully close number VIII has been to Sora’s shadow. 

ϟ  ┇ “ Why don’t you do everyone a favor Axel and disappear. You’ve done nothing but play House with that little newbie of yours. What’s the fun in toying around with a vessel, nothing but the embodiment of some scrappy leftovers of the real thing?” She sneers, prodding his chest,  - “Don’t tell me... you really think you have a HEART, now?” Retracting herself from the other, a biting laugh from her deceitful comment. 

ϟ  ┇ “You’re a NOBODY, Axel. Darkness lives in us forever. You’re a fool for thinking you actually mean something to someone.”

“You know, Demyx... You’re pretty strong. Why is it you don’t fight?” Xion had been curious since they’d conducted a training mission together before. Unable to avoid the work, he passed the test with ease. Xion had a harder time with it; she simply couldn’t move as fast, nor did she have quite a range when it came to combat strikes. “I guess it’s one thing to not want to work, but you could just as easily do it quickly and get back to playing your sitar... Is it really that much of a challenge?”

She didn’t quite understand how it was challenging for him, powerful as he was. While Xion herself still believed she had a long way to go, Demyx was on another level. For whatever reason, though, she was more determined to get stronger. “Don’t you want to work hard for Kingdom Hearts?”

Roxas’ mission for the day was to eliminate Heartless in Twilight Town. It probably wouldn’t be easy, since he was still just getting used to the job, but it was his first time going out by himself! He couldn’t fail now, after all the hard work he put into the Organization so far. He got his heart quota for the day and set out through the dark corridor into town.

He searched all over the area for Heartless, finally reaching Market Street’s commons, when he finally found it... chasing after a citizen?! Something in Roxas told him that he couldn’t let that slide. “Heartless! I’ll take care of it!” Calling his Keyblade to his hands, he dashed toward the enemy.

It followed the citizen into a tunnel, which looked like where Roxas first went for training... in fact, it was probably the same tunnel. “Piece of cake!” He knew his way around pretty well by now, given that it was one of the few places he knew at all. The Heartless managed to corner the person in and was about to try and take his heart, but Roxas managed to stop it. A swift blow to its back, and the dark being evaporated, sending a glowing heart into the air above it.

“Ha! Take that!” Finally, he got a good look at the boy he just rescued... and he was identical to himself? “Huh? You look just like me...” It was strange. He’d never encountered anyone who looked like him before. There wasn’t a lot of time to think about it, though, as more Heartless appeared. “Get out of here! I’ll handle this!” He still had a quota to fill, anyway.

What began as a walk around town led him right to his usual place for eating ice cream: the station clock tower. He was reluctant to climb up there today, though. This time, he wanted to change things up and see what else there was to do or enjoy. He should have figured that he wouldn’t be alone for it. He’d finished his work for the day, and it looked like Xion soon followed. “Hey, fancy meeting you here!” he greeted. “How was your mission?” Roxas himself was just on recon in another world, and he couldn’t wait to tell her all about it.

Xion heard Esmerelda and paused, fidgeting with her hands. “It’s nothing to worry about...” she said. Her protest, however, was only half-hearted. “I’ve just got a lot on my mind. Besides, shouldn’t you be more worried about the judge?” That man and his pursuant persecution was a far greater concern-- for both of them, considering the darkness his heart held. He could turn into a Heartless at any second, which was why Xion had gone to La Cité des Cloches in the first place.

“I don’t want your people to get hurt,” she said. “You’ve had it hard enough. I can handle it; don’t worry about me.” The Romani refugees in the city had a hiding place that Judge Frollo searched for relentlessly. If they could evacuate, Xion would be able to trap him in that place and defeat the Heartless he would become. That would satisfy her mission, at the very least.

“G-g-ghosts...?” Nope. No thanks. Xion wanted nothing to do with it.
