“Care for a Coke? The machine gave me two...Well, three, actually, but I already drank one.”
“The nineteen-fifties are nice and all, I suppose, but the twenty-fifties are when it really picks up.”
Holiday Horror
Winter was a terrible time of year. There was nothing wrong with Christmas; to a large degree, she enjoyed the lit up squares and carols blasting in department stores. But winter, the actual season, climate, conditions--she despised. Sweater weather was all well and good until she slipped on a patch of icy road and hurt herself or someone around her.
So far, she'd managed to avoid making a spectacle of herself. It was the weights, she decided, in the form of bags suspended from her arms, that kept her balanced. Last-minute Christmas presents for her few friends and multiple acquaintances made up the bulk of them, but some of the treats were for her alone. After a particularly stressful year, she owed herself that much. Her shoulder hitched upward in an attempt to slide some of the bags up her forearm into the crook of her elbow. In the process, the bags lurched to the side, hitting the back of a black-haired young man only a couple paces ahead of her. She opened her mouth to issue an apology, then thought better of it: the pavement was crowded enough; bumping into people was almost inevitable.
About that bit in Drake & Josh where Drake is talking about skydiving and says "You know, I heard one in five people don't even make it to the ground" and Josh replies, "What do you mean they don't make it to the ground? Where do they go?" --
That one in five is Una. She makes it to another century.
“So--have you got some kind of logo or does the scuba suit speak for itself?”
“Your skin matches my hair. Nice.”
She paused, the corners of her lips twitching with faint amusement. Then her eyes widened. Her mouth shut to form a tight, sheepish smile.
“Unless, you know, you're hypothermic. Then that isn't nice at all. Or so I hear.”
“Ooh--is that lipstick in celebration of Halloween, or is it a, ah...regular, everyday fashion statement?”
Something gothic. Ciel had explained the subculture to her, but she hadn't actually met many advocates in person. This was (sort of) exciting.
“Not that it affects my opinion either way. I like it. The lipstick. It's rather pretty, a bit mysterious.”
“Hey, watch where you're going. You could--oh. Oh, you dropped something.”
