Across the Ocean (2021-22) : There are oceans whose names rise as waters rise, flooding the landscape. I feel myself islanded by oceans with names I dare not mention. Names I prefer to acknowledge in silence for fear that a whisper may give rise to a tsunami. It’s easy to imagine islands floating off in the expanse of an ocean. Or simply sinking. Oceans as familiar as love or loss. I’ve been treading water, islander that I am; noting at turns the various islands that make up the uninhabitable me. I don’t expect a drop in ocean levels anytime soon, but from one islander to another, I raise an arm in a cautious wave.
