JENSEN STOP. I downloaded Gilead to read today during downtime at work and I’m 1 page in and it’s just the best damn thing I’ve read in ages. Like:

“kitten poster bullshit that had taken forty-three minutes and eleven seconds to eradicate”

“Power resided in Tony Stark. His very name commanded it. The Superior. The being above all others. More than a man. The New God.”

“It had taken less than two years for Gilead to become an Eden, a stronghold flourishing within its own walls.”

Like fuck me????? Every damn sentence is so eloquent and precise and beautiful and this world is just everything I want from my own SIM fic and the level of world-building and characterisation and how crisp the writing style is just in the one page god I’m so beyond excited to read the rest of this fic (and am wondering now if I should save it for one sitting so I can cherish it rather than little 3-minute lapses at work)

I haven't read the fic yet (but WOW am I excited to soon) but out of curiosity have you read Marilynne Robinson's book Gilead? It's a phenomenal story.

Though I suppose also you may be using Gilead in the Biblical/geographical sense or for your own personal-fic-purposes and, by all means, more power to you Jensen ❤️ I'm looking forward to reading it!!

I have not read the books, but I am most definitely going to read them if I can get a hold of a few if you're so highly recommending them!

I based the use of Gilead both from the biblical sense and its application as the 'New America' in The Handmaid's Tale. Since there's such a heavy influence of religion, power and control in the series I felt it was similar to what I wanted presented as Tony's 'New Rule.'

It was originally going to be Eden, but then I thought better of it because Eden sounded too much like safety and sanctuary, things which Tony only offers with a price tag attached.
