Vakseen’s “The Peace in Perfection” at Gallery 30 South.
Currently on view at Gallery 30 South in Pasadena, California is artist Vakseen’s excellent solo exhibition, “The Peace in Perfection.”
Drawing inspiration from his 90’s childhood, fashion & pop culture, childhood obesity, struggles with personal image & the African-American experience, Vakseen’s abstract portraits serve as a visual dialogue on our society’s idolization of beauty, the cosmetic enhancements endured to meet the status quo and the fragmentation within us as we strive for perfection in a world driven by unrealistic standards. Although his artwork mimics collage or mixed-media, each piece is meticulously hand-painted to blur the boundaries between perception and reality.
The exhibition will be on view until September 29th, 2019.
