ACCEPTED - Welcome Ada to the group as Kavita Martell, THE CORSAIR QUEEN. Our follow list has been updated. See Ada’s awesome application below!
CHARACTER TITLE: the corsair queen
CHARACTER NAME: kavita martell
FACE CLAIM: lashana lynch
DIRECTION:
i. Kavita has lost hope of returning home long ago but with the marriage to the Sun Prince, her hope of having her feet rest in the sand has made it’s way back into her mind. There is just one problem though, the home that she remembers so fondly may not even be there and that little thought could be a major reason why she will never return home. The fear that what she left behind has vanished is too great. The island may be the place she grew up in but it can never truly be home again. Her memory of the island has been failing throughout her years and what she does remember may be lost forever. I would really love to explore more of this conflict between wanting to return home and fearing that the place she knows is lost. There are too many variables in play that going back to her homeland just may not be possible, especially now that her heart has found a new place to lie.
ii. Her past is something that she never once has been ashamed for. Everything Kavita did was for her survival but when the time came and she had to face her crimes, she did it with her head held high. Kavita is not the kind of person to beg for forgiveness but rather to face the consequences of her actions with pride. Imagine her surprise when she wasn’t given the noose but instead her inheritage was brought into the light and she was treated as a princess, something she once forgotten. She’s in the middle of who she once was - a princess - and who she had to become in order to survive. There are two sides of her that constantly argue, one saying that’s not very lady-like and the other claiming she should do more.
iii. The one trait that could really be used to describe Kavita is adaptable. She knew she couldn’t return to Jhala, so she found herself learning the traits of thieves, murderers, and sailors. She did what she had to do in order to survive and if that meant committing a few crimes then so be it. There are a few things that she may have done differently but now, the past is the past and her actions will be something she will always defend. At least there is one lesson she learned through all of this; sailing. While she may be trapped on the streets or in a castle, Kavita will always find her way back to the sea. The sea is a part of her and it’s one part that she doesn’t ever want to lose. With the marriage, she spends plenty of time in the waters, creating and building the naval force that will strike fear in all their enemies hearts. I would love to see more about how she goes about doing so and the success (or failure) the naval force may have.
HISTORY:
i. She was so young, so foolish once. Kavita thought the world couldn’t touch her family but she didn’t know about the war that was outside her window, the war that would soon tear herself away from her home and lose sight of family members. Kavita was once naive but when she walked out her door for the last time, the naive part of her died alongside the good memories she had. How she found herself on the sea is something she doesn’t know, but she can remember the days spent out there alone - the hunger she felt, the way the sun was beaming down on her, the loneliness and the fear. The fear wouldn’t go away, not even after she found herself on the Stepstones. Stealing was the first thing she would learn how to do. With so little to eat in those passing days, it was a necessary.
ii. The young princess wandered these islands for quite some time before one group of pirates would take her in and teach her everything they knew. Sailing was by far the hardest she had to learn, stealing would a typical event of the day and selling, well she was a natural. Her ambition began to rise as she wanted to control her own ship, sail into storms that no one would ever dare. That day would soon come and she spent quite a few years in command. However, she grew too cocky, believing once more that she was untouchable, and that would be her downfall. Her head rose high as the guard escorted her before the prince and she was ready to meet her end.
iii. Yet that would never happen. How her past life, her inheritable, was brought to the Sun Prince’s attention is unknown. Surely she didn’t look like the little girl who fled her home all those years ago but regardless, the death sentence was taken off the tables and instead she was given a warm meal, a place to sleep and clothes that she would have stolen and sold if given the chance. The kindness that was shown to her was something she seemed to have forgotten and was meant with suspicion on what the Sun Prince really wanted from her, the answer to that would soon come. Marriage came into question and not taking his hand wouldn’t be very beneficial for her. The money that the Martell’s had was enough to build a naval force, small but with her help, strong. She could take this force and fight for Jhala, fight for her home. Once her homeland came into play, she would have gladly done anything for the Prince.
iv. She spends her days building this naval force, helping it become something great, something that their enemies will fear. Anytime she has free, she’ll sail herself. The idea of going home should excite her, and it really does, but the home that she spent such a short period of her time at seems to escape her memory. And how would she feel about leaving the Sun Prince behind? True, their marriage didn’t begin to love but those feelings soon came. For now, she’s putting aside the idea of truly returning to her home and focusing more on driving the naval force forward.
