Lovely work and superb writing as of late, Zoom! Wanted to ask: my sontails canon(s) and writing is aged up minimally to age of consent. I then hew to them having a pretty much vanilla, non-squicky (but healthy) physical relationship, as one might expect of an active young couple. I *think* I'm somewhere in the middle of this fictional spectrum, which ranges from asexual to--well, ridiculous, OOC depravity lol. Thoughts? Opinion? Much appreciated.

Hey, thanks! I’ve only had this blog up for a few days, but so far I’ve had a lot of positive feedback on my posts, which is really nice.

As long as they’re clearly age-of-consent, then go for it, seriously. 95% of YA fiction is teens/young adults figuring this shit out - anyone attacking aged-up shippers for not making the characters, like, in their mid-forties is forgetting that most of the people producing this stuff are young people themselves, too. And if the characters were already of age canonically, no one would complain about keeping them that way instead of making them older. IMO, you’re fine.

I pretty much agree with where you have them, tbh. I think that their relationship would be very physical, since they’re that way with each other anyway. Lots of hugging, rough-housing, hand-holding, cuddling etc. No shame about being that way with each other openly, either. As far as the ‘vanilla’ thing goes, I think you’re spot on with “non-squicky but healthy physical relationship”. Neither of them is shy about it and they’re both open to figuring stuff out together, and it’s usually pretty fluffy and tender when they do. Having said that, I don’t think Sonic would treat Tails like he’s made of glass. And I can imagine them getting up to mischief in unusual places, like in the workshop. I’m not going to go into detail about my headcanons here, but suffice to say I have a few.

Also, I think their relationship would be very well-rounded. They aren’t going to lose what made them best friends to begin with. Normal everyday things won’t change for them, with the minor adjustment of certain things taking on a slightly different hue. They’ll still play video games together, laughing and teasing each other, except now Tails is sitting in Sonic’s lap and Sonic might randomly kiss his ear while they’re playing. That sort of thing.

It’s really such a fluffy ship to me, even when it’s physical. (And I’m certainly not averse to kinks/more hardcore ships - I have those for other characters for sure! But SonTails is just too. Damn. Cute.)

I tried to sleep it off (since I was up all night anyway), but my asshole cat decided that today of all days he wanted to be extra snuggly and wouldn’t stop curling up against me no matter how many times I moved him aside. I mean, cute as fuck, but why today ffs? Additional body warmth is no.

Definitely drinking a ton of ice-water and have my (shitty) fan pointing directly at me. Tomorrow’s gonna be hot, too, but then it’s back down into 60s and 70s. I WILL SURVIVE~

Won't lie Zoom, I have enormous trepidation re: the Sonic movie, mostly thanks to Sony, a desperate studio with a proven tendency to meddle. I crave something amazing but know from experience it's best to withhold expectations. How they characterize Sonic and Tails will be key for me. I know that's unfair, a narrow lens, but it's also one of the foundations of the franchise and should be easy for experienced writers to nail down (as in Boom, most of the time). Here's to hope!

Oh, yeah, same. I haven’t really let myself get excited about it because there’s just so much potential for it to be awful (as with any movie for an established non-movie franchise). 

I would take full cartoon/CGI over ‘live action’ any day. But even those would still run the risk of being bad... or at least, unengaging to me. 

Will Tails get a decent role? Will there be too much focus on a romantic sub-plot? Or too much blind action with no decent story? Will the human characters shadow Sonic and co? Will there be enough nods to the franchise or will it feel completely removed and barely recognisable as Sonic story? Etc etc. 

But you never know. Maybe they’ll surprise us and it will actually be good. I feel like we’ll get a much better idea once there’s some new info (or leaks). Unless they just decide to drop the whole thing, which isn’t all that unlikely either, imho.

And honestly? It couldn’t be worse (or more removed from its roots) than The Super Mario Bros movie (which I admittedly still have a soft spot for in all of its terribleness).
