Drew/inked up a visual example of what Black Dog can truly look like when transformed.

 A Holy Beast is the transformed state of a Countryman – the physical epitome of his/her faith to their Titan; Skyward Lord Valdmane. However, a Black Dog – those whose faith has faltered from Him – undergo an incomplete transformation, becoming the grotesque mess shown above. They possess the similar physical feats and abilities as any other Holy Beast, but they lack the uniformity and feral symmetry of one. Additionally, Valdmane can force the transformation, and the physical process is often bloody and painful. That is why sucha form is what truly brands one a Black Dog.

 However, I actually have a name for the poor guy: Brother Cassius, a future villain for the FaustFall series.

 Brother Cassius is a member of the Countrymen, but he was born as a Black Dog (i.e. a faithless/unworthy child of their Titan Skyward Lord Valdmane.) Because of Cassius’s deformity, he was shunned by his fellow brethren. However, he learned to adapt to his cumbersome physiology and eventually hunted Denizens alongside his fierce brothers. Brother Cassius’s legacy is an unfortunate one though, for he was abandoned after completing a great deed for the Countrymen: the slaughter of the Countryside’s captured wildlife-turned-Denizens. Though he laments within the pit of his victims, who’ve long since dried and shriveled up, he remains there and prays for the Skyward Lord’s drifting grace. Meanwhile, his story now serves an as allegory for young Countrymen who feel unworthy to their Lord, whereupon even the most lowly born from the Denmother might serve Him in some manner.

Skyward Lord Valdmane is one of three primary Titans, eldritch beings who predate the Countryside, who now holds dominance over the aforementioned land with a tyrannical grip and upholds His authority through His Countrymen subjects, raging a war against Langseeth the Lamenting and His Denizens.
