“Never do that again!” Loki’s grip on Valkyrie’s shoulders tightened a fraction.
Valkyrie snickered. “Never thought I’d hear you say my line.”
His voice was shaking, “I mean it. Don’t scare me like that.” Loki pulled Valkyrie in closer and pressed his lips on her forehead. “Ever,” he breathed.
Valkyrie opened her mouth. Ready to make a witty retort about getting out a scoreboard when she felt Loki’s grip shaking and a droplet of water hit her collarbone.
“Loki?” Valkyrie frowned.
Loki pulled Valkyrie even closer so she could only hear his voice through the echoes of his chest.
“I thought you were really dead.” He murmured.
“Hey-” Valkyrie wanted to challenge him at that moment from all the times he did the same to her, but his wavering voice and the unsteady beat of his heart told her otherwise. Instead, she stroked the back of his neck and said, “Alright, then. Never again.”

“Take it back!”
Loki’s heart nearly jumped out of his chest when his front door opened with a bang and Valkyrie stepped through, hair disheveled and slightly damp from the rain shower earlier.
“Are you mad?” Loki closed his book and stood up. Despite Valkyrie’s tense appearance, Loki remained cool and took his time to set his book back on his bookshelf.
With his hand still hovering over the book, Valkyrie grabs Loki’s wrist.
Before he could shout out in protest, her voice hissed, “Take. It. Back!”
“What the hell are you talking about? Take what back?” He said while jerking his hand out of her grip.
“What you said.” Valkyrie swallowed. “What you said earlier. About how you don’t think what we’re doing is casual, anymore.”
“Are you drunk?”
“Not more than usual. But that’s not the point, my point is ever since you let those stupid words come out of your mouth, I can’t forget it and it’s going to screw everything up-and-and everyone’s been looking at me differently since then even though they’re supposed to know nothing about us, so I know you have something to do with it or maybe it’s the way you’re acting around me in front of everyone else or-
Loki held out his hand and cut off Valkyrie’s rambling.“So you want me to undo what I said last night because you’re worried I might be right?”
“It’s complicating everything. That’s not what we agreed upon. You were supposed to leave after we finished and you didn’t-and stuck around until the morning. Thor kept asking me what you were doing over and I had to come up with some stupid lie that I know he’s not buying.”
“If I recall, you were the one to tell me not to get up and fell asleep while cuddling.”
“You could have just sneaked out when I fell asleep.”
“Why?” He countered. “Do you want to stop?”
“No-I just,” Valkyrie sighed and muttered under her breath, “Why won’t you just let us go back to before?”
Loki hummed in thought before he took a step forward and reached out to skim his thumb across Valkyrie’s cheekbone. His fingers combed through her hair before placing them on the nape of her neck and pulling her in for a deep kiss that, without a moment’s hesitation, Valkyrie returned.
He opened his mouth to invite Valkyrie in and brush her bottom lip with his tongue. Valkyrie then sucked in a deep breath and felt the cool mint of his breath pass between her lips. She pulls Loki forward and deepens the kiss with a guttural growl in her chest.
Loki’s hands moved like a viper and hooked around the back of Valkyrie’s thighs, lifting her so she’s wrapped around his waist and settled on top of his kitchen counter.
Is he taunting her or proving a point? At the moment, it didn’t matter to Valkyrie. Only that her shirt was suddenly too heavy and she let Loki peel the damp shirt off and toss it aside on the floor. Valkyrie leaned back and let Loki pepper small kisses up her collarbone.
“Ah-” Valkyrie sucked in a breath and guided Loki to cup one of his hands over her bra. “R-right there.”
“You really don’t want me to stop?” Loki whispered beneath the base of her throat.
Valkyrie struggled to find the words and resorted to nodding her head up and down like an idiot.
“And yet…” he moved his hand over her damp bra to cup the back of her neck. His lips brushed across Valkyrie’s cheek while he spoke.“You wish for me to take it all back?”
Valkyrie moved in to pull him in closer to her body, but all Loki did was brush her hair over her ear and whisper, “Well, that sounds like your problem.” He then pulled back with a cheeky grin and turned around to leave to his bedroom. Before opening his door, he turned to peer over to Valkyrie and opened his mouth like he wanted to say something else, only to step through and shut the door behind him, leaving Valkyrie alone with her thoughts.
A gust of wind tickled the back of Valkyrie’s ankles and she turned around to see Loki’s front door quietly shut by itself and the deadbolt lock back into place. Valkyrie imagined Loki on the other end of the bedroom door chuckling and teasing her that he knows she’s not planning to leave anytime soon.
She hates it when he’s right.
Valkyrie cursed under her breath before she walked to Loki’s bedroom door and stepped through like nothing at all happened.

“The gardens are quite peaceful,” Loki says while pressing Valkyrie back down on the bed so she’s lying on her side and pressing her back against him. It’s Loki’s turn to take his time. While pushing a lock of hair back, Loki returns to his spot over her ear and mutters ever so softly, “Not many people care for nature and those who do care mind themselves. It’s exceptionally peaceful at night. The stillness of everything it-It’s almost like falling asleep.”
