A bit late to the party, but about the jabolko+jajce post: where I'm from (Goriška), I'm pretty sure everyone says "jabka" (or "japka"). but we say "jajce". *shrugs* freaking dialects, man...

That really is interesting! I mean, we use neuter and feminine interchangeably at home, but feminine is more common in both (and neuter can sound a bit fake), for some reason (idk) I never even considered that one could use different genders for the two of them (exclusively).
