Location: The campsite is located on the banks of the Lago di Cadore, a reservoir. It is very peaceful. The small town of Vallesella is on the other side of the lake, a long narrow bridge connects them. The site is quite large and has several terraced areas. There are number of caravans/lodges for long term visitors. There are two buildings housing the toilets, showers, dishing washing areas and laundries. These have seen better days, could be a bit cleaner and were not heated. On the site there is also a Pizzeria which has a very large selection of pizzas either for eating in the restaurant or to take away. There are no alternatives on the menu!

Check in is either at the reception desk at the entrance or in the Pizzeria during opening hours. Payment either with credit card or cash. Broken english is spoken.

Around the site there are plenty of opportunities for hiking. The town is about twenty minutes walk away.

Conclusion: A peaceful site that has seen better days.

We left Bunculuka mid morning and made good progress to the border. Travelling through Slovenia we stopped at a roadside restaurant for a bite to eat, I ordered Pizza which turned out to be very tasty but enormous. Further along the road we also stopped to fill up the tank as diesel is very reasonably priced in Slovenia compared to Italy. After crossing the border into Italy we followed the autostrada until we reached Tolmezzo where we wanted to turn off towards our next destination. Leaving the motorway we tried to pay the toll at the machine but it wouldn‘t accept our visa card. An italian voice kept talking to us however we didn‘t understand the instructions and when the barrrier raised I just drove through without making a payment. When we got home we mailed them and explained what had happened and eventually we received a bill for the toll charges. No fine had to be paid.

Once past Tolmezzo we stopped when we saw a supermarket to buy some supplies and also to give Puh a chance to stretch his legs. After we left there we must have missed a turn off as we landed on a road that we hadn‘t planned to take. It turned out to be a very long, steep and winding road up to a pass which meant full concentration and a lot of gear changing. At the top we paused for a while to enjoy the view before the long and winding descent! Eventually we reached the small town of Vallesella where we had to cross a fairly narrow bridge over a reservoir to reach the campsite. When we got out of the van we at once noticed that we were in the mountains as it was cooler than we were used to!

There were only a couple of touring visitors on the site and most of the holiday lodges were also unoccupied. I suspect that site is not that well frequented as the facilities had seen much better days and there was a cobwebby mustiness about the place. Attached to to site was quite a large pizzeria and we walked down to it hoping to eat there. Strangely they only had pizzas on the menu, loads of different toppings to choose from, but having eaten most of a large pizza at lunchtime I was hoping for a salad or at least something lighter and smaller than a pizza! A little disappointed, we walked back to the van and made ourselves a snack there before settling down for the night.
