Modern AU where monsters are real and people know about them. Anzu is a werewolf. She's been repressing/managing her transformations with a variety of tranquilizers, among other drugs. But it's causing behavioral changes in her day-to-day life (she's getting more aggressive, very emotionally volatile, etc). So she and her doctor decide it would be best if she did a free-range transformation. Legally, in order for this to be done, she has to have a shift partner who is not a werewolf but just as strong as one to watch over her during her transformation.
So she goes to a local club for the things that go bump in the night to try to get herself a shift partner. Enter Atem, elder vampire, who decides he quite likes this pup. He decides to be her shift partner. Shenanigans ensue.
Britt was walking around with Tanya speaking to her about things. Tanya was questioning Britt to get an answer out of her. They saw Jake and Britt waved which Jake waved back only to turn from them.
"He hates me." Britt said
"That's not hating...it's I love you but you turned me down before I even had a chance to date you." Tanya said with a laugh
"Well I don't want to date him and I told him that." Britt said
They were arriving to the big school party which Britt didn't mind going to with friends.She had a small group which was her main friends but she didn't mind and it wasn't like anyone else could bother her.
Britt's pov:
It was getting dark and everyone around us was getting wasted but us. I mean I went along having a beer but I wasn't much for drinking. Tanya was laughing and smiling.
"So let me see what I can predict" Tanya said
"Wait you need a crystal ball" I said and got a empty beer handing it to her.
"right, thanks" Tanya said taking it. When she touched my hand her eyes went wide like she saw something.
We both let go of the beer bottle at the same time and Tanya was panting. I wondered what she saw but I waited a few minutes before asking her. Seein that it must of been something important.
"Ok you won't believe me. I saw fog and I saw you with two shadows behind you." Tanya said
"What?" I said my smile fading
I'd been walking earlier and there was fog where I was certain that I was being followed. In fact I had the sense of being followed but how could I prove that? Oh yeah I couldn't prove that at all but still it was the fact she saw that. Tanya raised her hands up in defense
"I'm drunk" Tanya said "Or buzzed"
"I'd believe in buzzed." I said
Little did I know that Yami and his brother along with their group of friends had arrived. When Tanya walked away I went to walk somewhere and sat down. I finished my beer and threw it down as we went about. Yami bumped into me
"You know we have to stop meeting like this" I said
"Right" He said
We walked around for awhile and I learned a few things as we walked. I was going to ask more about him and his family when Kayla came over and on to him strongly. I sat waiting for him knowing it couldn't be helped.
"I wonder who abducted you. Don't worry you're fresh meat she'll back off soon enough." I said when he returned by my side and I nudged him. We were talking laughing having a good time which didn't bother me at all.
Atem's pov:
I saw Yami get close with her as he was walking with her and talking without hesitation. I hated the fact he could get close with her and I couldn't yet. I wanted no more than to get close and pierce that skin of hers making her one of us.
Yami hates my approach at things but his approach is oh so slow. I thought
I saw a couple walking out into the forest and I was hungry. Nothing would quench my thirst like a mates blood but she wasn't ready yet. I followed the group out into the woods and watched. The guy seemed to be trying to get the girl to do it against the tree and she was refusing. I knew that things were so simple right now. I waited oh so patiently and when she was alone I attacked her to feed. I of course made sure that she was left alive a little word to Yami that if he didn't get closer to our mate soon I'd do it again.
People came and I watched from a distance as they took her to the party.
Yami's pov:
I was walking with Britt having a good time with her when I saw the girl being brought back. Britt seemed shocked by the attack and the girls borther was rushing over to help them. I left Britt's side to back up knowing that her blood was bad for me. I was on an animal diet and that was hard when your brother is the cause of this. I hadn't told Britt of Atem yet but that was all going to be happening.
Next day I visited the hospital and I made sure the girl didn't remember anything of what happened to her that it was an attack. The bigger problem would be if Atem would come see her it'd wear off and she'd be finding out. I saw all the blood bags in the hospital and I wasn't staying.
this is for Britt to never find out right away. I thought
Britt's pov:
I was sitting with Tanya and Kayla just talking with a shake in front of each of us. We were talking about the lingering comet that was for a few nights. Tanya smiled.
"So I talked with my gram and she said the comet is a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Egypt was 5,000 years ago." Tanya said "A lot of paranormal activity"
"right then you gave grams another shot and she told you another story." Kayla said then looked at me "So then what?"
"So then nothing" I said
"So you and Yami talked all night?" Kayla asked "there was no sloppy first kiss or touchy feely of any king?"
I looked at the paper infront of her while taking a sip of my shake "Nope we didn't go there."
"Not even a handshake? I mean, Britt we are your friends. You're supposed to share the details." Kayla said trying to urge me
"We just talked for hours, why does it have to be a big deal?" I asked looking at her
Kayla was leaning in "What is with the blockage? Just jump his bones already! ok, it's easy boy likes girl, girl likes boy. Sex" Kayla said making hand motions.
I merely looked at her picking up my papers "profound." I said but then I thought about it did I want to be alone forever. No. I made a choice and gathered my things.
"Where are you going?" Tanya asked
"Kayla's right. it is easy. If I sit here long enough, I'll end up talking myself out of it." I said
I remembered where Yami said he lived and headed straight there. I wasn't prepared for what I'd come to find.
I watched her for a while as she seemed so naive about her own surroundings but then most humans were. I loved the idea of converting a new mate though one that would not tear me and my brother apart or try to make us decide when one would get her and the other had to wait. Yami watched her practically never taking his eyes off of her. He'd already met her first so I pushed him forward and he looked at me.
"Go talk with her" I said
Yami seemed hesitant but he walked over to the table of girls I knew he could never take his eyes off her.
Britt's POV:
We were talking about the coming up party for the return to school and everyone seemed to be in agreement to go. I was glad that no one seemed to object but suddenly Hathor looked over noticing a group of guys. I wondered what she was looking at so I looked seeing Yami who I'd bumped into earlier.
"Oh it's him, the new guy." I said
"He couldn't take his eyes off you earlier in school." Nina said
"Yeah right." I said
We were all talking like it was no big deal as the classmates started walking in. My sisters all laughed as we got up and got in the crowd.
Yami's pov:
Atem could hardly take his eyes off of Britt, as her and her group slipped in the crowd I resisted the urge to punch him. He seemed to smirk and look over at me with a knowning smile.
"You should talk with her. Get close with her group" Atem said
"If anything she's nothing like Brittania. I would know, it wasn't the ideal meeting with her last year." I said
Atem punched me then pinned me to the wall "You did what last year brother?!" He demanded and I pushed him off "She fell in the water and I saved her."
"Guys enough, your mate is not running off." Yugi said
"Somethings odd about mine." Tristan said
The curiosity peeked my interest and I went over where our classmates were talking. I made it so simple like bumping into her earlier. Britt was surprised and I made it look so natural.
"Sorry, it's Britt right?" I asked
"Yeah." She said offering her hand "You're Yami, right?"
I shook her hand and nod in agreement. Her cousin suddenly came over and smiled at me. "You should meet us tomorrow night. Big party this ones kinda small bring some friends if you have them." Hathor said
"I might, will you be there?" I asked her
"I.." before she could finish her cousin smiled "Of course she will be."
Time moved fast as we were back at school the next day and things seemed to go well. The teacher asked her a question that she didn't know so I stepped in and answered it for her. The teacher told me I was wrong but I corrected him. I of all people should know better with ancient Egyptian fact. It was later that night was the party, I asked Atem to stay back but he refused. I invited Yugi and Tristan to the party as they went with me.
Britt's POV:
Tanya was trying to ask me questions about Yami to see if I was interested. I was able to avoid some of the questions but honestly something peeked my interest in him
Atem throws his head back, moaning long and low before leaning into Kaiba’s throat. “I believe we had a deal, love,” he murmurs breathlessly.
Seto chuckles. “You think you can ride and feed at the same time? That’s quite confident of you.”
Originally I came up with this for puzzlejune’s Shiver prompt, but I was too busy during July to post anything... A fact I regret. but here it is now I guess.
