she's the bride of death
vampire origins
in my vampire dr, the reason why vampires were even created truly depends on the culture, but the truth is that they come from a blessing turned curse. most know that vampire mythology started before the 19th century and originated in eastern european folklore. but the truth, at least in my dr, is of two lovers who wished to be forever bound in any and all forms. for one's physical body, to one's soul, but they were afraid of what would happen when they died. would their souls be one, or would they die with their souls broken in half? petrified, they did everything they could to be one. red-stained mouths and freshly cooked meat, they ate, and ate, and ate, till nothing of them was left behind.
the full moon shone ever so brightly, like a diamond, as they lay in the fresh grass. hand intertwined, they took their exhaled their last breath as the night sky granted them their last touch. when they woke up, they had no knowledge and an uncontrollable hunger. a soul had been torn apart for the sake of its own safety. blessed with an indestructible body, they were cursed with a hunger that knew no bounds, and a tainted soul. slowly, both watched as mortals died, and struck with loneliness, they sought out their other half. turning one, another one, and those turning more, immortal creatures grew within the shadows. until those shadows became too small to hide in, and soon enough, the whole world had vampires blending in with humans.
why can’t vampires enter houses without permission?
in my vampire dr, the reason why vampires need permission to enter depends on the culture. the reality in my dr is that houses are sacred places, much like churches. the rule is based on the ancient notion that dwellings were guarded by both physical and spiritual spaces. the importance of an invitation is a symbol for the idea of consent, a violation of one's personal space, and the significance of free choice. the home maintains a haven that evil cannot enter unless the inhabitants voluntarily grant it access by demanding an invitation.
