idk if i haven't seen this bc i'm not on the owenjuice side of tumblr... but vampires!owen feels like a deeply unreliable narrator. just from his episode one, just from the backstory. (additionally, i have only seen owen's ep 1, i have a lot of povs to catch up on, so maybe this is cleared up in future episodes)
200 years ago. oakhurst is thriving, seemingly because of this mayor, while owen lives out of town because people are unaccepting of his ailment. a mayor who is solely attributed the success of a prospering town, and a sickly outcast, that's what owen says the story starts with. then owen starts spending time with the mayor, owen disappears for a few days, and the mayor is killed for hurting owen. yes, the townsfolk killed his only friend. but... think about it. would people who didn't care about owen notice the daily visits to the mayor? would people who didn't care about owen notice his disappearance? would they confront the mayor about it? would they put this mayor, the only reason their town is doing well, to the pyre for the outcast they couldn't stand?
anyway. i think vampires!owen has a lot to learn about humanity. and himself.
