The fact that Legs killed more people than Owen doesn’t really matter as much as some people on here make it sound.
A serial killer that killed ten people is a lot! A soldier who killed a couple hundred isn’t that strange. Thousands die in war. Soldiers run into rows of people they can kill and who want to kill them. They kill on battlefields.
Legs sent wounded soldiers back into the war, killed on the battlefield and he did poison a villages water supply. But he was a soldier during a war and Owen wasn’t.
Owen killed outside a war. He didn’t follow orders. There wasn’t country he had to kill for. He killed so many people compared to other people in his category but Legs didn’t.
Legs killed soldiers on their feet most of the time, people who would’ve killed him if they had the chance, people who meet him face to face on the battlefield. Owen killed only civilians, people without weapons, people who ran away from him in fear.
Listen, if I'm being honest, I'm placing all of my money on the vampires (namely, the coven. Which is just the vampires minus Apo and sometimes Cleo) winning.
They're the most cohesive group. They all seem to willingly defer to Scott, and Scott is a pretty competent leader. They respect him out of seniority, but also sheer confidence, smarts, and general likability. They also have a sense of liking each other a decent bit, and at the very least dont seem actively bothered by one another (minus Apo, who doesn't want to be a vampire at all, and iffy on Cleo) Shubble and Scott literal are best friends, Pyro has some sort of weird it's-power-dynamic-but-he's-into-it thing going on with Scott, and Owen simply respects his judgement. So in-fighting isn't exactly much of an issue.
Compare that to the humans. They're all pretty suspicious of each other, with rifts already forming in the group. Also, their main source of vampire knowledge is Avid, the paranoid vampire-crazy weirdo, who's just as likely to protect you from a vampire as he is to accuse you of being one. He seems to have a very witch-trial-y stance on deciding who is and isn't a vampire. Therefore, the humans don't seem to have much faith in him, and generally would only work with him if the situation required it. And again, they're all pretty suspicious of one another. Compare this with the vampires, who really have nothing to hide.
And then we get to cooperativeness. The vampires have already shown their willingness to work with the humans if they believe it to be to their benefit. Examples being their deal with Apo and Scott saying that he'd be willing to pay for blood. The humans, meanwhile, barely even stop to consider that shubble may not be bad. She's a VAMPIRE so OF COURSE she's bad. They have shown that as a group they are unwilling to work with vampires, and will not entertain the idea of a "good" vampire. This WILL be detrimental, as they will lose some very powerful potential allies. And I simply cannot imagine Avid being willing to work with a vampire.
And finally, with considerations to the previous two points, we get to the final main point, practicality. Because there are people on both sides of the story who care far more about getting out of here alive than they do anything else. And quite frankly, if I were one of the humans in that situation? I would simply request to be turned. And anyone who didn't want to be turned? Well, they know they aren't safe with the people, so they might as well join the vampires. And anyone who REALLY doesn't want to be turned can simply pledge their allegiance to the vampires, or promise information in exchange for safe passage out of Oakhurst. Even someone like Apo, who does not want to be a vampire at all will still most likely realize that it's either join the vampires, or be discovered by the humans and then betrayed by them. Same with Cleo, she is pragmatic and smart, and has already given up on trying to hide her vampire-ness, in favor of getting blood easier.
And a few minor points are:
A. Vampires are stronger than humans, and will only get stronger from here on out.
B. You can turn a human into a vampire, but you cant turn a vampire back into a human. The vampire's numbers can only go down when you kill one of them, and some people may not be willing to kill their friends.
Also I haven’t watched Pyros ep 7 yet but if he killed Avid to get Scott back and now Scott wants to kill him… he did not get what he wanted.
Also, can Scott stop being a widow?! He’s been a widow too many times at this point.
Also also, I hope Avid comes back as something worse, as the thing he was turning into before he became a vampire. They won’t call him a liability then. And Scott would love him just as much (maybe even more) as a blood thirsty monster.
Pyro, Avid and Drift are all vampires and have nothing to return to.
Avid ran away because he killed his partner (Ellie?). He was so scared all the time but now he’s not, now he’s feared.
Drift ran away because a murderer threatened her and she got scared. She was also scared and said as much in ep 6. She isn’t scared anymore!
Pyro technically has a life to go back to but his family wrote him out of the will and his classmates bullied him. He even said that he wanted to turned his classmates and family into vampires. He doesn’t want to go back.
What is worse? Staying with a manipulative Scott who can care about them, “I mean he cares about Shelby, he can care about us too”. Or do they go back to the life they don’t want? They could always go back but then they would have to face consequences and think about what they did and live with the thing they ran away from. Is that worth it or should they stay here with Scott and Owen? Shelby is clearly content with being a vampire and likes Scott and Scott likes her back and shows care for her. If they can do that too they could get the safety, security and love they always wanted.
I’ve seen people say that the coven isn’t a family but they are!
Ep. 6 spoilers
The core four are a family but everyone else thinks they are an organisation. They didn’t except Apo because she didn’t really want to be there, they had to talk about letting Avid in and everyone had to agree, they are pretty open towards Cleo but she’s in the coven but not the family.
The person I think is the closest to join the core four in the family is Drift. Shelby already likes and trusts her, they don’t have a reason to dislike her or not trust her and she did need time to think but she didn’t immediately side with Oakhurst. Shelby and Owen seemed open to her building a bedroom but Owen seemed sceptical to Apo building a bedroom.
What family roll will she have? Scott is the sire and the person people turn to so basically the dad roll. Owen has been described as a weird uncle on here before. Shelby and Pyro are siblings and Shelby is the favourite child. Maybe Drift will become a third sibling?
