Femme V! Legs

Ramble below

The style is based on 1870s bustle styles with the bustle serving as the protective layer hence the short sleeves. The sleeves under the dress have vein motifs to highlight the blood flowing through Legs system as a human (If this was stage 3 it would be blue). Cross inspired by lady Gaga with eyelets and lacing because we love lacing in this household. Big leather gloves as usual and a riding hat because I'm slightly obsessed with Legs arriving in Oakhurst via horse and having remnants of hunting wear.

Lovely quote from my 1870s research

"Gentlemen dress as quietly as it is possible to do and there are no extremes in dress"

(Looks at my plans to make Scott Goldsmith wear the most outrageous finerys because 1. He thinks he deserves nice thinks 2. I think I deserve some tambour embroidery as a treat): So what I'm hearing is this is not his era.

And so it begins...

In other words - Hi! I'm a final year costume design student who is doing Scott and Legundo's VSMP charecters for my Final Major Project. Because of the design process I'm going to be drawing these two A LOT and creating hopefully some pretty cool costumes of them for my graduate show so I thought I'd post my research findings, designs, sampling and of course the final outcomes over the course of the next year.

I will be using the tag #vampiresfmp to keep all my stuff together. Can't wait to make some cool things happen :)

V! Legs fans need to get a little more insane about the Hippocrates oath. It's like a longer version of "Do No Harm".

Also the four humours, which was also Hippocrates work which also was the theory responsible for bloodletting.

And also that as far as I can see black bile was considered the opposite of blood in the four humours theory and therefore bloodletting would balance it out if a perceived imbalance. Something about Doc being so open to bloodletting as a procedure because he feels as though his humours are unbalanced? The four humours was only seriously challenged in 1861 by Louis Pasteurs germ theory and only taken fully seriously by the 1880s, there is every possibility they formed the foundation of Doc's training and he may fall back on what he was taught in times of stress.

I fixate on black bile as a a humour because they were kin assigning this stuff. I'll list out some of the traits associated with black bile spot anything that may apply to Doc

Maturity (On a life stage spectrum of baby, young, mature and elderly.)

Melancholy temperament

Represents the spleen organ (Where white blood cells are produced to fight disease)

Pensive personality

Astrological Saturn (Symbolic of discipline, karma and limitation)

I'm meant to be starting like actual designs next week. Not just random concepts. Actual designs. HELP -

Anyway have another Legs. I'm trying to find my artstyle but my pen wasn't working so the line art is once again scuffed finger sketching ANYWAY WE MOVE ON RAMBLE BELOW -

This one is inspired by Dior's Spring 2006 collection which is iconic, amazing and the source of the original pearl necklace with blood on it so please Google it.

The design was based on this look specifically.

The borrowed elements are the colour and use of latex. The coat is reworked closer to the silhouette of a victorian frock coat. The asymmetrical collar is mimicked by the glasses which are weird and off centre and have strange lens. The larger lens is cracked and bleeding because eye injury and I'm trying to avoid an Iron Lung situation with my model. The heart is purposefully missing its blue parts to show its overwhelming bloody and no longer functioning. The left arm has veins in 4 colours to represent the four humours.

That's all the fashion stuff but for the drawing itself I didn't plan for Legs to look so...sad. Usually he's depicted as angry or tense or melchonly but looking sternly or fearful. He looks so small and unsure of himself and behind all the intense emotion he has because of the circumstances if he took a moment to look at himself he would already recognise himself as the monster he thought he would be. And that's so sad that all his effort came to nothing but a relapse into old habits.

(Ofc his story continues for like 2 more hours after that but MY POINT IS HES HAVING BOTH A MID LIFE CRISIS AND A BABY LEARNING HOW TO WALK MOMENT AT THE SAME TIME.)

This was an illustration from 1856 after John Snows mapping of Broad Street proved cholera spread through water pumps.
