Van Bueren Studios’ Milton Mouse (1930s): a severe case of the not-Mickeys.
A Dizzy Day (1933)
An incredibly cute and charming short staring "Sentinel Louey" I'm in love with how flat and cartoony everything is. Louey does try to drown a cat and punches a battered wife so I'm not sure how much I love the character himself, but I've been promised more shorts with him so we'll see if he grows on me. Apparently he's originally from the comics of Otto Soglow, I'll have to check those out for more context.
Bubbles and Troubles (1933)
Not quite sure who decided bubbles and pirates go together...
Cubby and Honey are blowing bubbles when a cat pirate off-shore decides to snatch Honey. Cubby rides a bubble to the ship to save her and puts that cat in his place, er, bubble.
Hook & Ladder Hokum (1933)
Tom and Jerry are firefighters who are awoken in the middle of the night to go deal with a fire. They spend the second half of the short trying to get a hopeless old man out of the burning building.
The real interesting thing here is that this is Frank Tashlin's directoral debut.
