If there is one takeaway about the van life, it's truly that no one adventure is the same. Whether it’s the adventure on the open road or the adventure in getting into the van life, our reasons and destinies are unique yet powerful. In short, the free-spirited nomadic van life, is different for everyone and pursued in various ways. So what exactly are the “different ways” in going about the van life?
For starters, a lot of the reasons people are attracted to the van life, is to pursue that nomadic lifestyle. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the term nomadic dates back to 1587, illustrating it as, “A member of a people that travels from place to place... has no permanent home.” Now to some people having “no permanent home” can sound completely terrifying! However, the many beauties of the van life, is that this doesn’t have to be the reality. In a nutshell, you get to decide what the van life will be for you! In this blog, we will examine the different avenues in going about the van life as well as discussing the current topics bustling within the community.
So where do you start? Well the first things to consider is whether the van life will be a full time commitment or a part time commitment. A few other questions that we must think about is:
What type of van will be the best fit for you?
Who are the people that live the van life?
Are there ever problems along the way?
Getting into the van life is by all means not the simplest or easiest of tasks. There’s a ton of variables, fixes along the way, and simply just constant adaptation to one’s environment. (My sincerest apologies for sounding like Darwin there!) There’s going to be up front costs, parking and camping costs, maintenance costs, and constant needs from upgrades and gear along the way as you get deeper and deeper into this traveling adventure. Although the challenge may seem great, anything worth its while is worth the time and hard work.
There is always a way, so find out where to begin!
