Hi! I really like your blog! I haven’t really seen any studyblrs who go to uga. I am going to be a freshman there this fall and was wondering if you had any uga specific advice for freshmen?
Hello!! Thank you so much!!
I have SO much I could tell you. Seriously. Feel free to message me because I might type too much haha!
1.) GET INVOLVED. But, do it for yourself. Yes it is fantastic to get involved for your resume an academics, but as a freshmen, this is how you’re going to make friends and branch out. One of my favorite things about UGA is the diverse amount of organizations it has. So definitely explore your options to find out what you wanna do! There is something for everybody at UGA. UGA is so large so, it can be hard to make friends at first, so I definitely think getting involved helps. (Greek life, orchestra, intramurals, Desmosthenian…also I think we have a quidditch team lol) Also– they have SO many events for freshmen, so go. Even if you don’t want to, chances are there will be free food soooo
*cough cough* join glee club..
2.) STAY FOCUSED. UGA is an intense school. It’s one of those schools where a good percentage of students here party- a lot. A lot of students party hard, and study harder. But that is exhausting. Go out and be young, sure, but remember why you are a here: for your education. And honestly, it gets boring after a while. There is more to college than drinking. Everything in moderation!!! (also pls just take care of urself u need a social life but u also need sleep n rest)
3.) DON’T COMPARE. I struggle with this. So much. Because UGA is so hard and competitive, everyone here is pretty smart. Any student here was at the top of their class in high school, or student athlete, some type of overachiever, etc. Everyone here is accomplished. It can be hard not to get down sometimes by comparing yourself to others, so just don’t. You are smart and full of potential, otherwise you wouldn’t be here. We are all on separate paths. All of our journeys, academic or personal, are different.
4.) RESOURCES. I’m a junior and I just recently discovered this, and in fact, used it today. There are so many on campus resources to help you, whether it be counseling, career services, tutoring, etc. USE THEM. THEY ARE FREE!!!! they WILL help!!! I have been having a tough time lately and today met with an academic coach, and it was so helpful, and she help me make some decisions (that I feel good about) about my classes and my future. Use tutoring before you take a test. Use counseling if you are struggling. Never be afraid to ask for help in any aspect of your life. There is SO much available to you, so use it!!
I hope this helps! If you are a STEM major, I can give you even more STEM-specific advice. Please always feel free to reach out. UGA is great, but it can be really imitating and scary!
Good luck and GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
