One of the oldest issues in Vanguard: Solved

I was reading Vangardus’ article on Morgana and noticed it mentioned that with the introduction of Imaginary Gifts, players are now incentivized to re-ride their Grade 3s repeatedly to spam the Gift effect. This has effectively solved one of the oldest flaws in Vanguard, that being that getting a Grade 3 in hand when you were already AT Grade 3 meant it was a dead card.

Certain new card types would try to address this; Discarding for Perfect Guards, Persona Blasts, Break Rides, Strides, but now there’s a reliable and desirable solution from Day 1, and one that likely won’t be power creeped out by new card types later in the game’s life.

So to me, when I read that farewell notice, all I see is someone who tried to put in a lot of effort into a game he really loved and when the ideas started to run out and the game stopped being fun for him, he just... couldn’t take it. It was really disappointing. It’s a bit like being a really big fan of a young celebrity. They start out fine and doing great and you root for them and buy whatever product they’re in but eventually they screw up, and they screw up big-time. It’s then that you just realize “This is not the same person I rooted for” and... well, you get the idea.

Maybe I can also think all this, and type all this because to me... Vanguard was never about the big tournaments. I didn’t strive to be “World Champion” or anything like that. I just wanted to have fun. I started playing with no friends, no one to talk to, and I was completely scared and alone. But over the years, playing helped me get better at talking to people, and being around people. I started talking with some of the nice people at my locals, the guys at the counter started to know who I was. It was just a way to... have fun. I don’t even remember how I found out about Vanguardus in the first place. But there he was, some other dude who really liked the game and also happened to have some Autism in him. I was really jealous of a person like that doing so well and having a lot of friends and winning all the time.

So... it’s a shame. It’s a shame that the business and professional side of the game is terrible. It’s a shame that it was ruined for him. Hopefully Digimon turns out alright and things are localized nicely and Bandai doesn’t drop it.

Well for one thing I doubt Link Joker’s getting 2 RRR strides..... and actually now that I think about it..... given the RR’s left over.... the new Sealy ace could be relegated to RR and instead that RRR slot could be Mura’s stride.
