Truth be told, at least half my OCs have siblings, and I think it’s because I myself have a large family??? Anyhow instead of rambling about all of them, I’m gonna just choose a few and then I’ll put the rambling about those few under the cut!!! (In retrospect, this got real long, so… oops! Sorry to make you read so much, but I had an absolute blast with this!!! Thank you <3)
So these two are actually some of my most recent OCs!! (literally… less than a week old) They’re characters in a universe that I created for a trilogy I’m writing (except they’re in the sequel, not the trilogy) and they’re satyr twins! @catladymarie is hugely influential in their very existence, tbh
Yve and Aury are inseparable. They’re constantly squabbling with each other, so an absolute stranger may think they don’t get along, but if you spend more than five minutes with them, you’ll get the feeling that they have a special bond. And they do!! It’s the whole twin telepathy thing, except not quite. While both Yve and Aury studied magic, only Aury came into hers. She can send telepathic messages to Yve and he’ll hear them, but he can’t actively send messages to her the same way. It’s eternally frustrating for Yve that Aury has magic and he doesn’t, because he feels like it’s his responsibility to protect her (older twin complex?? probably) and he can’t without magic. They’re very close and would kill for each other, but they’re quintessential siblings in that they regularly give hollow threats of killing the other.
Luke & Lissa
The Smiths! They hold a very special place in my heart. Luke and Lissa (Lis in particular) are some of my oldest OCs! Like. They’re literally going on twelve years at this point. I made them for an rp that somehow became the premise of a novel??? anyway @stardustscully was huge in their development bc she brought in the best friends and love interests Finn & Pippa!! (still in love with those two, absolutely endlessly)
So! Luke and Lissa aren’t actually blood related; Lissa is a little under a year younger than Luke and was adopted by the Smith family when she was fourteen, after spending nearly ten years in foster care. So Luke is really used to being an only child, but he takes to being a big brother quite quickly. Luke plays basketball and Lissa runs track, so they’re both quite active and often their bonding time involves working out (yuck). They don’t fight much, as Lissa has some pretty serious PTSD and such, but on the occasions that they disagree, they just refuse to be in the same room as each other for a few days. Lissa’s favorite way to insult Luke is to imply that there’s nothing more to him than the dumb jock stereotype (there isn’t) to which Luke snarks back that Lissa is little more than a gremlin (she’s very short). Aside from sports, they have very little in common, but they love each other and always team up to prank their parents and throw overly extravagant parties for their friends.
Jaq & Keelan
Disclaimer: Jaq and Kee aren’t actually siblings, they’re cousins. (But they were raised together by Kee’s mom so it counts. Hush.) I’m not sure I’ll ever get around to actually writing the story they were made for, but it is a fun one! @spacegaylra contributed to this story at the start of it by helping me plan, and made Jaq’s counterpart/best friend/love interest, August! (sweet summer child, my baby)
SO! Jaq and Kee are fey belonging to the Winter Court. Jaq is an only child, technically, but his parents are recusants (similar to apostates, if you follow dragon age lore) and were killed in a rebellion when he was a baby, so he was raised by his mother’s sister; Keelan’s mom. You really wouldn’t guess that they’re cousins, though, because physically they look very similar. Kee is older by the equivalent of about two human years, and she’s got a bit of an explosive personality. She loves pranks and getting into mischief and she has a tendency to drag Jaq along and then blame him if they get caught. By comparison, Jaq really hates being the center of attention and tries to blend into the background as much as possible. As much as he likes to deny any affection for Keelan, Jaq really does love her dearly, and he doesn’t realize quite how much until he’s separated from her (and meets August!) and has to live without her for the first time ever. He can’t ever let Kee know that, though, so when they’re reunited he immediately insults her new haircut.
Dwight & Gemma
Ah, Dwight. How I despise you and yet adore you. Dwight and Gem are twins in a story I’ve taken to calling Vanilla Pines (also Paranormal Kids) and consult @tennisxiu pretty much every time I work on it. It’s probably annoying. But in my defense, she approved an absolutely cursed character design (and name!!) for Dwight (he’s naturally ginger but this is set in the late 90s and he has frosted tips so his buddies call him White and during the summer he wears a bucket hat)(he’s cursed.)
Dwight and Gemma are also twins, but they’re probably the least affectionate set of siblings in this whole post. They love each other, of course, but they would both rather die than admit that. They were pretty much glued at the hip when they were kids, but around age 8, Dwight makes friends with a girl named Morgan at school. Through Morgan, he meets Wesley and Milo, and the four of them become really good friends; Gemma is excluded, and this is when she and Dwight start to grow apart. The four of them get involved in some supernatural/paranormal shit and endure an extremely traumatic experience shortly after Morgan’s tenth birthday, and for the next 6/7 years Dwight basically pretends it didn’t happen and tries to be closer with Gemma again. But, I mean. Teenagers. Gemma’s the one who pulls away from Dwight the next time, as they have completely different interests and is disgusted by her teenage brother (because, duh. i had teenage brothers. they’re nasty). Ultimately, Dwight is closer to Morgan than he is Gemma, and while Gemma has an image to maintain, that does actually hurt her. (Morgan is nice, but Gemma is Dwight’s twin, yknow?) Gemma gets increasingly more angry about that fact the more and more deep into this supernatural crap Dwight gets, since he refuses to tell her what’s actually happening. When he does come clean about it, Gemma doesn’t believe him and they have a big blowout fight. After that, they have a pretty rocky relationship until their mid-twenties or so. At that point, it’s been years since everything went down and Dwight sticks by his story (unlike the first time this all happened, when he was a kid), and Gemma is more willing to believe him. They’ll never be close, per se, but they get to the point that they’re talking regularly again and will visit each other outside of holidays.

Wesley’s mind whites out for a second. He hasn’t seen Olive Stringfield in six years. She looks older, more tired than a twenty-year-old should. His stomach turns over as he recalls her face at Milo’s funeral. Wesley misses whatever Dwight is saying in response, until Morgan elbows him in the side. Olive looks furious.
“My little brother disappeared because of you and your freak friends, Dwight, and it destroyed my mother. So leave me alone, okay? I swear to god I’ll call the cops if you try to talk to me again!”
She shoulders her bag and storms off, and Dwight scoffs. Morgan kicks him in the shin before he can say anything more.

lol i can’t do that i have no clue BUT i think wes would have surprisingly pedestrian tastes?? he likes hot pockets is what i’m saying here. morgan loves her mom’s homemade lasagna. it looks like shit every time but tastes great. and dwight????? dwight. dwight tries to sound cool and say his favorite food is like... some sort of hot pepper or something?? its not. dwight’s favorite food is dinosaur egg instant oatmeal. he got a pack that didn’t have eggs in it once and he cried. he was fifteen. his twin sister still teases him about it.
40. If I wanted to draw them, what would be distinct physical features that I would have to know to draw them correctly?
DWIGHT OWEN WHITMAN IS A NATURAL GINGER BUT THIS IS 1996 AND HE HAS FROSTED TIPS. DOES HE LOOK COOL? ABSOLUTELY NOT. DOES THAT MEAN HE’S GOING TO CHANGE HIS HAIR? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
also he wears a bucket hat in the summertime and has a scar on his arm, just above his elbow, from that one time he fell out of a tree in the back yard (he claims gemma pushed him) and when he’s sixteen he talks his step-dad into letting him get his ear pierced
morgan has never paid attention to patterns or sizes on her clothing and she’s not about to start now??? her favorite accessories are circular sunglasses and a rainbow braided leather belt. she has a stick’n’poke tattoo of the nirvana logo on her heel that she did herself, and frequently doodles or writes notes on her arm in sharpie
wesley saw romeo & juliet (1996) on a school field trip, went home, and cut his hair exactly like leonardo dicaprio. he refuses to leave home without wearing his neon colorblock windbreaker and a leather bracelet that his mom hates but he never takes off. he also has braces, which he hates, but that his dad insists he’ll be thankful for in the future
70. What do you, the creator of this OC, like most about them?
oh gosh that’s not fair bc i really adore these three idiots, they are my babies and i designed them specifically to be likeable despite being stupid teenagers
i think my favorite thing about wes is his snark, tbh. he’s a very anxious boi, especially considering that he’s the most connected to the entity and it occasionally possesses him and he loses big blocks of time in his memory and thats SPOOKY for him but when he’s questioned by the cops he’s just like ‘yeah bro what you gonna do bout it??’ and the cop who has to deal with him is just. so tired of teens.
morgan is really close with her mom and also REAL into conspiracy theories and ghosts and aliens and spooky shit in general. everyone thinks she wants to be a witch but she just likes collecting weird things. her favorite bands are nirvana and guns’n’roses and all of this is well and good but i think my favorite thing is how defensive she is of her friends. dwight and wesley are both ridiculous in their own right and morgan doesn’t let them get teased about it. unless she’s doing the teasing. then they best be prepared to get ROASTED.
and dwight!!!! dwight. oh, dwight. dwight owen whitman, with his frosted tips and wrestling singlet, stuck with the nickname ‘white’ and good in school but a complete dumbass when it comes to social cues. the first to say that everything that happened to them before milo died was their imaginations, the last to admit that there really is an entity toying with them. he cries over oatmeal sometimes because its hard being a teen. that’s okay. he loves his dad and step-dad to the ends of the earth and his favorite sport is basketball but he chose wrestling instead?? dwight. my favorite thing about dwight is that, despite his general idiocy and teenage boy-ness and all that, he’s a very soft boy. he wants to make sure people are happy and he’s not afraid to make a fool of himself if it’ll make someone else laugh. he’s a good boy with a soft heart even if he does make some odd fashion choices.

okay so the working titles have v different energies to me lol one is Oslasil and the other is Vanilla Pines/Paranormal Kids
💛: what is the title based on?
Oslasil is the name of the empire that the main characters are from in the trilogy!!! and i honestly have absolutely no idea what it’ll develop into bc its sort of about Oslasil but its mostly about Veridis and the royal family and politics and then i GAVE IT A SEQUEL LIKE A MADMAN and the sequel is even more convoluted and DOESNT EVEN TAKE PLACE IN OSLASIL but yeah it’s the empire lol
Vanilla Pines was my original working title bc i was listening to the song Vanilla Pines by Tow’rs while plotting and the aesthetic was just too good to pass up y’know??? bc this whole story is based on an extremely vivid and disturbing dream i once had (literally when i woke up i could feel my teeth and i thought there was blood on my hands and it was TERRIFYING) and the whole dream was like misty and foggy and dark and in all these natural areas and the trees were just so spooky!! and ponderosa pines smell like vanilla and grow in northern california where i’ve set the story so its just real good for the aesthetic!! the alternate title, Paranormal Kids, comes from bouncing ideas off @tennisxiu and her genius brain latching onto the phrase paranormal kids bc the mcs are ~16-18 yrs old and they get mixed up in some ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT that is entirely paranormal. and like. it just fits the plot really well whereas Vanilla Pines fits the aesthetic and i really enjoy hearing them together tbh
💖: are you planning on publishing it? if so, how?
hhhhhhhhh i would die if either of these got published but yes!!! i think both will end up as self-published books bc i have no clue how to work with agencies and i’m also real terrible at writing/editing on deadlines so i’m not sure i could handle the rigidity of set dates??? but i’d be ecstatic if either got picked up by an agency, esp Oslasil bc it’s a trilogy with a sequel series
💝: who has your favorite character arch? give a brief summary
oof okay this one is hard bc i tend to fall in love with my own characters which is BAD bc i play favorites!!!!! that said, i don’t think its even my main boys in Oslasil that have my favorite arcs??? in the og trilogy i honestly think Purtham has my favorite arc. like. he’s got a history and has lived his life already by the time the trilogy takes place, and he’s complex and has a life and a story to tell even after the trilogy is over!! also for the sequel trilogy i should say Eidel bc he’s one of the main two and i adore him but hear me out: Yve. he’s the older in a set of twins that study magic but while his sister Aury develops magical abilities, Yve doesn’t. and its really hard for him bc he thinks its gonna take his sister away from him and he won’t be able to protect her but even as much as he adores Aury he hates himself bc he feels ‘less than’. what he doesn’t know is that the whole twin telepathy thing they have is actually his own magic!! Yve is a Wanderer, a very rare type of magic user that can teleport and telepathy is a sort of astral projection for them. so. Yve. y’know?? he’s got a whole thing going for him that involves self acceptance and complicated feelings and all
NOW FOR VANILLA PINES/PARANORMAL KIDS
right off the bat (holy shit hang on just realized i was supposed to give a brief summary and i don’t think i really actually did that??? whatever its my post i do what i want lol) RIGHT OFF THE BAT i think of Wesley bc he’s my mc and he’s.... oof. i love him so much. Wes was raised fairly isolated- his parents are v rich and snobby- and went to private schools, and after an incident when he and friends are 10ish and one of them DIES (is murdered by a nasty supernatural entity) his parents send him to a boarding school. now, Wes has had ‘imaginary’ friends his entire life and he feels guilty after Milo bc his invisible hands, as he calls them, are the same energy as the thing that kills Milo. but when he’s 16/17ish Wes says FUCK IT and refuses to go back to the boarding school and insists to go to public school where he reunites with Morgan and Dwight and then the three of them get involved with the fucked shit in the woods again and at one point Wes is posessed/in a trance and he paints an entire wall of his bedroom to look like the forest in his dreams without knowing he did it. also this is set in the 90s and Wes isn’t sure he believes the millennium is gonna happen
(i also like the background arc of Olive Stringfield, Milo’s big sister. she’s a v interesting character)
