Tell us a little bit about the design you used for your Vans Customs! What was the inspiration behind them?  I wanted to make shoes that I would actually want to wear first and foremost and I also wanted to take full advantage of all the design options that were available to me. I love color blocking and how playful it can look, so I included that in my design (I really appreciated how the tongue and trim could all be different colors). For the actual pattern, I tried to do my take on a floral while including elements that are common to my visual library (the grid pattern and scorpion).

What was your favorite part about the Vans Custom shop process? I liked how easy it was! I’m not especially computer savvy, but the site made everything super easy and low pressure. I also liked how many different customizable options there were- the fact that you could even change the trim color on the rubber sole was awesome!

How would you describe your personal style?  Wow, I’ve never really thought about it haha. It’s pretty eclectic- I like to mix vintage things with new pieces, basics with patterns. I used to dress a lot more ostentatiously (a lot of bright 80’s inspired pieces) but as I’ve gotten older I’ve toned it down quite a bit although I still love a great pattern.

What have been some of your favorite reactions you’ve gotten on social media or by friends? I’m so happy that other people would actually want to buy them and wear them too!! A lot of people wanted to know how they could get their own pair which was awesome :)
