The Van (1977) Dir. Sam Grossman

Primarily released to drive-in theaters in 1977, the film was released at the peak of the vansploitation genre. It was followed by the 1978 film Malibu Beach, in which Stephen Oliver reprised his role as bully Dugan Hicks.

In 1977, a science fiction movie was released that changed cinema and pop culture forever. And, coincidentally, another sci fi movie was released that year called “SuperVan”.

The eponymous vehicle that sported solar panels and fired laser beams was driven by the actor who played Wade in “Babylon 5” and pursued by the actor who played both Dr. Simon van Gelder and Captain Ron Tracey on “Star Trek”.

watching Supervan (1977) for the first time. it’s one of the generally weirder and low key prurient PG movies I’ve ever seen. entertaining so far with cameos from Len Lesser (Uncle Leo on Seinfeld) as a cop and Charles Bukowski as the water boy at a wet t-shirt contest
